Fulda Heritage Society spokeswoman, Marge Winter, made a special presentation and proposal to the Fulda City Council at their Monday meeting. She told the council that the Fulda Heritage Society is interested in purchasing the flathouse/warehouse elevator from the city, asking if the purchase could be made for $1.00. Winter referenced the purchase of the Fulda Depot that occurred in the same way many years ago.
Winter stated that the old elevator was likely built in the 1880’s. It was owned by S. Y. Hyde Elevator Co. in 1910, and is the last surviving flathouse/ warehouse elevator in Murray County. It is also one of five surviving examples of this rare elevator type in the state of Minnesota.
Questions were asked of Winter regarding safety of the building, insurance on the building, and the Fulda Heritage Society’s plan regarding structural improvements.
At this point, a contractor has submitted a bid to repair the roof, and David Baumhoefner, Fulda Insurance Agency, will be checking into the possibilities of liability insurance to be purchased by the Fulda Heritage Society.
Fire Chief Gary Clarke requested a motion by the council to approve getting truck number 801 to Heiman Fire Equipment, Sioux Falls, SD, for a repair estimate. Clarke was instructed by the council to ask about the salvage value of undamaged lights on the truck that could possibly be sold should all the warning lights be replaced.
Katie Jacobson, CPA, presented the city’s Audit Review. During the presentation, she explained why certain funds were sitting as they currently are, and made recommendations on transfers of funds which would be of benefit to the city’s financial positions.
Laura Ostlie, Bollig Egineering presented information regarding the CSAH 2 infrastructure improvements. She also requested that the council schedule a special meeting date in the middle of June to determine the scope of the fire hall improvements, Phase 1 overall design, water and sanitary sewer replacement around the school and the streets scape project. That meeting has been set for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 3 p.m. at City Hall. Councilwoman Jasmine Bray stated that Fulda Memorial Library would like to re-organize the Friends of the Library group.
