The MCC Rebel Girls played their second of two back-to-back games in Ellsworth. The Rebels were coming off a nice win against HLOF on Monday night and they were looking to beat the Dragons of Adrian Ellsworth for the second time this season. The Dragons have been struggling as of late, but they are always ready to take on the Rebels.
The Rebels and the Dragons played an interesting first half filled with some good runs for each team, followed by long runs of no scoring. Neither team struggled with turnovers, but the Rebels were committing too many fouls. The Rebels sent the Dragons to the free throw line 10 times in the first half and the Dragons were able to score 12 points from the charity stripe, compared to the Rebels who made 2. That is a difference of 10 points in one half. The Dragons led at halftime by 1 point, 24 to 23. Sadi Krahling scored 12 of the Dragons’ 24. The Rebels had 7 different players score with Seanna Swenson leading the way with 6.
The second half would see the Rebels take the lead two trips down the floor. The Dragons would go scoreless for the first four minutes and thirty-nine seconds of the second half, but MCC was only able to build a four-point lead during that time. Seanna Swenson gave the Rebels’ offense the boost it needed scoring 8 points in the second half but at times the Rebels got themselves in trouble by not feeding the post in a timely fashion. If you wait too long to throw a pass, more times than not it will be a turnover. MCC led 35 to 30 with about six minutes to play in the game, when the Dragons took over. Brylee Zebe made a huge three-point shot and Madeline Wagner scored a couple of baskets inside. With Swenson in foul trouble, the Rebels were all of a sudden fighting to get back in front. The Rebels, over the final six minutes, committed 7 turnovers and gave up a 20 to 9 run to end the game. The Dragons won 50 to 44.
The Rebels turned the ball over 19 times, compared to the Dragons’ 13. The Rebels would make 6 free throws in the game while the Dragons made 20. Adrian Ellsworth made 4 three-point shots compared to the Rebels 2 from deep. Sadie Krahling led the Dragons with 20 points. MCC was led by Swenson with 14 and Jayda Hellewell with 11. The Rebels will finish the week in Hills against the Patriots of Hill Beaver Creek.
