Court Queen of Peace met Nov. 24,2022 following the KC/CDA Memorial Mass for deceased Members. Those remembered at the Mass were: Margaret Konkol, Jean Eich-Court Queen of Peace; Myrna Surprenant, Dora Ziemke-Court St Theresa; Howard (Jake) Konkol, Dean Lanners-Slayton Area.

Amy Kathman called the meeting to order with prayer and flag pledge after a light supper prepared and served by Amy Kathman and Kelly Nelson. In the absence of Joan Ratzloff, there was no secretary’s report. Betty Palmer gave the treasurer’s report. Betty had received greetings from Alice Knutson who is doing well after a bout with Covid. Father Nguyen reported on his recent retreat which concentrated on the Eucharist. Jesus is the center of our life, Everything we do can be offered to God as a symbol of ourselves. Joann Halbur recommended the book ”Eucharistic Miracles”.

Unfinished business included the continuing drive for large and extra large underwear and chapstick for the Dudley House in Sioux Falls which will be delivered in December. Those wanting to help with the Christmas baskets should meet at 11 AM on December18 to pack and deliver goodies such as candy, cookies, fruit or anything you think those less fortunate would enjoy. Marcie Cowan, Faith Formation director, will be discussing the weekend readings for Advent on Mondays at 5PM. Come once or weekly--no signup required. There was a question if we will be able to have 6 Lenten lunches. Barb Minnehan volunteered to make a list of those able to work and those unable to work.

In that way we will be better able to know whether there are enough workers available to make 6 lunches possible.

There was a discussion about dropping Adopt-a-Child donation which members now have the option of donating to at the time dues are paid. Since CDA and the parish have multiple opportunities to fund that type of activity Barb Neilson made a motion to discontinue Adopt-a-Child. Jeaneen Nelson, a state officer, informed CDA that National dues will go up $2 and State dues will probably also go up $2. Several members gave input as to the cost of membership in other organizations. With that input Joann Halbur made a motion to raise dues to $25 payable January 1, 2023. Several suggestions were made to defray the expense of members who do not pay the yearly dues. Most members were adamant about not dropping them as members keeping in mind that our motto is “Unity and Charity”. A suggestion that lunch money from meetings, or volunteers paying dues for another member would be an option .

Several ideas were brought forth as to how to make our organization more vibrant.

Bring a craft or project you might be working on and just gather with others.

Have a card party with a variety of games perhaps on Sunday afternoons.

National CDA is offering $2500 scholarship for graduate school. Contact a CDA member.

Pray for vocations. There are pictures and names on the bulletin board of seminarians at Divine Mercy Hall.

The next meeting is the Christmas party at the Pizza Ranch on Wed. Dec. 14 at 5:30.
