MCMC CONTINUES POSITIVE EFFORTS TO PROVIDE SERVICES

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. The meeting had been delayed by one week due to a lack of quorum the previous Tuesday.

The only three commissioners in attendance at this meeting were Dave Thiner, Dennis Welgraven and Lori Gunnink.

The meeting opened with recognition of employees for five, ten, fifteen and twenty years of service, a delayed recognition from 2022.

Approval was given to allow the Shetek Sportsman Association fishing tournament on June 10th. Payment was approved on construction of the new Parks Maintenance Building. Total cost of the building was $323,290. Auditor Trea-Slayton has already purchased three others. The purchaser will be responsible for all fees and taxes.

Murray County Medical Center CEO Luke Schryvers presented his monthly report of activities. February efforts will focus on marketing of services available at the facility. Two staff members Brooklyne Boerboom and Jody Bauer will be participating in the Rural Health Management Academy offered through the Center for Optimizing Rural Health grant. Physician recruitment continues with an offer made to one of thirteen applicants. However, the applicant declined the position. An anonymous donor made the purchase of ultrasound equipment for the ER. Pain clinic procedures are available from Carol Campbell, CRNA. Behavioral health services are now available on online. Dr. Santos is providing vascular screenings on a monthly basis. The Wound Clinic services provided by Jennifer Hillestad have been busy with new patients being added.

Sheriff Heath Landsman presented the per capita funding of $4.50 for the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force in which Murray County participates. Based on the 2020 census of 8179 Murray County’s share will total $36,805.50.

Brad Pagel represented the Slayton American Legion to inform the Board about the Vietnam Traveling Wall Display scheduled for the week of the Fair, August 15-20. Panels will display names for all conflicts dating from WWI. The Slayton Soccer Field will be used for the display with plans to increase shuttles to provide rides from parking areas. Pagel also asked for approval for an additional flag pole at the memorial site adjacent to the Government Building to allow the addition of the Space Force flag.

Jean Christoffels will be seeking grant monies to provide EV charging stations within the County. Three sites have been identified as possibilities. Currently there are no stations in the county. Commissioner Thiner objected to the plan citing the possibility of taking an opportunity from private enterprise. Stations are only available in Marshall, Pipestone or Worthington at this time.

Human Resources Director Ronda Radke reported the hiring of Sarah Heintz as the part time License Center Clerk at a wage of $18.94 hr. Chad Benda has been hired as County Assessor at a wage of $41.93 hr with ten days of vacation time. Benda will have two years to obtain his Senior Assessor certification. Radke also reported that the Pay Equity report has been submitted with a rating of 91.
