I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about Dementia. Dementia is the main term used to describe the decline of memory or thinking skills, including judgement, reasoning and complex motor skills. There are several different types of Dementia that fall under that umbrella term. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common in people aged 65 and older. As you can see in the diagram below, there are several other forms of dementia.

So remember when someone is talking about Dementia they are talking about any of the ones listed on this diagram.

Keep in mind if someone all of a sudden seems to have memory issues, it might just be a Urinary Tract Infection. This infection can give cognitive decline rather quickly. If that is the case, then they should see their doctor very soon. Usually, an antibiotic is prescribed to clear up the infection.
