COMMISSIONERS HEAR MEDICAL CENTER REPORT

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, October 04, 2022. Murray County Medical Center CEO, Luke Schryvers, presented his monthly report of activities. A September 12 interview with a potential provider went well and an offer was presented to her. However, she has received several other offers to consider with a decision to be made by the end of October. She will not complete her studies until 2023. The City of Slayton has asked for exploration of other options to finance ambulance purchases after a request was made for a rate increase. Based on population the rate falls heavily on the city. There is a remaining balance of $635,000 in Covid grants that can be used for purchases. MCMC has been selected to participate in the Center for Optimizing Rural Health program to improve quality of care and address the challenges of rural health care. September was a strong month ending with a positive net income.

Highway Engineer Randy Groves requested approval of a resolution for DACA funding.

The Disaster Assistance Contingency Account was supposed to reimburse road repair expenses following four different disasters in the period of 2018-2020.

However, all requests for payment from thirteen different counties, including Murray County, have been denied.

The DACA fund carries a balance of $30 M with only $3.3M having been spent. Groves estimated the repair of eleven roads has cost Murray County $120,000.

A detour agreement was signed with MNDot for a detour using CASA Highway 34 and CASA Highway 4 for nineteen days in 2023. The project will close Highway 59 on the edge of Slayton for installation of a by pass lane for access to Slayton Streets 28-30. County Administrator Carolyn McDonald presented the names of Earl DeWilde,Randy Kraus and Peter Petersen for appointment to the Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water Board.

Valerie Kastner was appointed to the SAWS & Planning Board for a three month term. Sue Tutt was appointed to the Planning Commission to fill the final three months of a term.

Murray County resident Shelly Sweetman will fill one of the open spots on the Red Rock Rural Water Commission.

The meeting recessed to allow the Commissioners to view the nearby Doom property that was purchased recently. The meeting adjourned from that location.
