CHANDLER AMERICAN LEGION MEETING NOTES

The Chandler American Legion and Auxiliary met on Tuesday, September 15th, for a short meeting before going to the park to properly burn several flags.

President Patsy Buys opened the meeting in usual form. Faye Schuur gave the opening prayer. The Auxiliary then sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. The group then held a moment of silence in memory of the deceased. The Auxiliary then repeated the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. The meeting continued with the reading of the minutes and having roll call. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

For business, it was reported Jennet’s daughter did not sell poppies for Memorial Day. Instead, she gave a generous donation. The Auxiliary thanked her for doing this.

Several members attended County Installation held in Slayton in early August.

Patsy reported that the Department President’s Project was for a creative arts program to reduce PTSD in 8 veteran’s homes. The Auxiliary voted to give $200.00 to this project.

There was no information from the Second District project. The auxiliary is remembering two new local veterans. They are Cameron Prins and Owen Vogel.

The Second District project will be donated in October. It was decided to order 200 small poppies. Members are reminded to remember Veteran’s Day on November 11. It was noted that Faye’s sister lives near St. Cloud. She was gathering funds to purchase school supplies for school students. The Auxiliary voted to send her a donation.

With no further business, the meeting closed with prayer and the singing of “America”.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Patsy and Mary are hostesses.
