The Hadley Buttermakers started another winning streak as they won both games played during the week. Here is the week’s games recap:
Wednesday at. Pipestone
The Buttermakers traveled down Hwy 30 to take on west rival, Pipestone A’s. Hadley was looking to sweep the season series from the A’s. Ace, Avery Weber started on the mound for Hadley.
Hadley would score first. Derek Platt would lead off the game by singling up the middle. Derek would move to 3rd base on two ground outs. Max Zwart would walk putting runners at the corners. Alex Petersen would then come to bat and send a shot to left center scoring Platt. Max Zwart would try to advance to 3rd base. The Pipestone relay to 3rd would get by the 3rd baseman allowing Max to scoot home for a 2-0 Hadley lead. Avery Weber would hold Pipestone hitless through the first four innings.
In the 5th, Pipestone would finally get a hit off Weber. Pipestone’s lead-off batter would reach on a Buttermaker fielding error. The runner would advance to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Pipestone would get back-to-back hits to score a run and cut Hadley’s lead to 2-1. Pipestone would tie the game in the 6th after a leadoff walk and a booming double to the fence in left center.
In the 7th, it looked like Hadley would take back the lead and put up a crooked number. The first three Buttermakers would reach on 2 Pipestone fielding errors and a single to load the bases. Derek Platt would step up and single to score one run with Hadley’s big bats due up. Unfortunately, things did not work out for Hadley as the Pipestone starter would record two strike outs and get a foul flyball out to the catcher to thwart the Buttermakers with only a 3-2 lead.
Pipestone would get a leadoff single to start the bottom of the 7th. Jacob Van Dam came in to relieve Avery Weber. Van Dam did his job as he would strike out the next three A’s batter to maintain the 3-2 Hadley lead.
Hadley would add a run in the 8th on a single from Alex Petersen and a fielding error from Pipestone to allow Abe Paulzine to reach base. Lincoln Graven would then hit a sacrifice fly to score Petersen and a 4-2 advantage.
Pipestone mounted a threat in the bottom of the inning as the tension mounted in the ballpark. Hadley would make fielding error to allow the leadoff batter to reach. The runner would move up a base on a ground out. The next batter would single to put runners at the corners. The runner from 1st would steal 2nd putting both runners in scoring position. Hadley composed themselves. Hadley would pull off a pick off play. Trent Carlson would throw down to Nick Bruning at 3rd base as Nick applied the tag to the runner as they caught him off guard. Jacob Van dam would record another strike out to end the inning.
Max Zwart came in to pitch the 9th. Max would shut the A’s down in order as Hadley would escape with the 4-2 victory.
Derek Platt had a good night at the plate collecting 3 hits, Alex Petersen chipped in with 2 hits and Trent Carlson and Lincoln Graven picking up Hadley’s other hits. Avery Weber picked up his 6th victory of the season and Max Zwart earned the save.
Sunday vs Worthington
The Worthington Cubs came to Hadley as the Buttermakers foe in Hadley’s annual 4th of July game. The fireworks went off early in Hadley as the Buttermakers blasted the Cubs 16-1 in a 7-inning affair.
Hadley would score right away in the 1st inning. Derek Platt led off by reaching base after getting hit by a pitch and move to 3rd on stolen bases. Nick Bruning would walk putting runners at the corners. Danny Blankenship would then fly out to score Platt. Eric Wieneke would single to the fence in left center, scoring Nick Bruning from 1st and a 2-0 lead.
Hadley would double the lead in the 3rd inning. Justin Benda led off with a double and scored later in the inning on a Joe Larson triple. A groundout would score Larson for a 4-0 lead. In the 4th, Hadley would up the lead to 7-0. Abe Paulzine would lead off reaching base after getting hit by a pitch. Justin Benda would score Abe on a triple to center and then come into score on a Derek Platt single. Derek Platt would come around to score Hadley’s 3rd run on a Joe Larson single and a passed ball.
Worthington’s starting pitcher started to tire in the 5th. After Hadley loaded the bases, Worthington made a pitching change. Trent Carlson would single home a run. Justin Benda would hit a ground ball to the Cub 3rd baseman who would attempt to turn a double play, but his throw to 2nd base would be off the mark as two Buttermakers scored. Nick Bruning would single later to plate 2 more runs for a 12-0 Buttermaker lead.
Hadley would end their scoring in the 6th when they cashed in with 4 more runs on 3 hits to take a 16-1 lead.
Sam Erickson would pitch a complete game victory for Hadley. Sam kept the Cubs off guard the entire game. Sam gave up 8 hits to the Cubs, of which 5 were extra base hits. The only run the Cubs could muster was on a solo homerun given up in the 5th inning. Worthington had chances to score runs in the game as they left 6 runners in scoring position in 5 of the 7 innings. Sam would end the game recording 11 strikeouts.
Joe Larson, Justin Benda, and Derek Platt led the Buttermaker hitting attack with 2 hits each. Nick Bruning, Danny Blankenship, Eric Wieneke, Jeremy Steinle, Avery Weber, and Trent Carlson all had 1 hit. Derek Platt and Nick Bruning led Hadley in the rbi department with 3. Justin Benda would get 2 rbis while Joe Larson, Danny Blankenship, Sam Erickson, Eric Wieneke, Trent Carlson, and Avery Weber picking up 1 rbi.
