RICHARD RAYMOND GUNDERSON

Richard Raymond Gunderman, the son of George and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Utz) Gunderman, was born on March 29, 1928, on the family farm in Seward Twp., Nobles Co., MN. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Richard entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart after he was wounded. Richard was united in marriage to Juanita Maxwell on April 25, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Fulda where they lived and farmed. Over the years he worked for the DNR, Behr’s and trucked for area farmers. In December of 2015 they moved into Fulda. In January of 2024 Richard moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Windom and passed away there on December 29, 2025, at the age of 97. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

JOANNE MILDRED MCCORMICK

JoAnne Mildred McCormick, the daughter of Oscar and Ruth (Ewen) Haugen, was born on February 1, 1932 in Waterloo, IA. She moved to Currie, MN in 1935 where she grew up with her grandmother, Florence Haugen helped raise her. She attended IHM Catholic School and graduated from Tracy High School in 1950. JoAnne was united in marriage to Eugene “Mac” McCormick on April 20, 1951 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton, MN. After their marriage they lived in California and Washington while Mac was in the Navy. They then moved to Slayton in 1956 and then to Lamberton, MN in 1957. In 1966 they made their home in Fulda, MN where they continued to live. She worked as a nurses aid at Maple Lawn Nursing Home until 1983 when worked at the Fulda Library until 1997. JoAnne was a Sacristan at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church for over 30 years and received the Bishop’s Medal for dedicated service to the church in 2009. She remained at their home after Mac died in 2002. Joanne moved to the Maple View Estates in November of 2017. JoAnne became a Secular Franciscan in 2010 and belonged to the Little Portion Fraternity in Marshall, MN. She also volunteered at the Senior Dining, helped with costumes for the Fulda plays. JoAnne passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton at the age of 93. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. She enjoyed reading, knitting, making vestments for the priests wedding dresses and formal gowns. But she really loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

LARRY KALAS

Larry Kalas was born on October 25, 1942, in Slayton, Minnesota to Arnold and Loretta Lentz Kalas. He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1960. On June 16, 1962, he and Henrietta “Hank” Vander Bush were married at her parent’s farm near Woodstock, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Garvin, MN and later near Woodstock, MN. Larry worked as a hired man and began taking mechanic courses through the mail. In 1974 they moved to Iona, MN and in 1976 they moved to Slayton. Larry worked as a mechanic for the Murray County Highway Department for over 30 years. Larry could fix anything big or small that was brought to him in need of fixing. Larry and Larry Jr. both enjoyed their camping and fishing trips together over the years. Hank passed away on January 23, 2013. Larry remained in Slayton until 2021 when he moved to Boulder Estates in Marshall, MN. In 2023 Larry moved to Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, MN. Larry passed away on January 4, 2026, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 83. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton where he served on the church board, and as usher. Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, baking, caring for his lawn and flowers, Nascar racing and collecting Nascar items, his cat Tiny, walking his dog, Sammy, and feeding stray cats.

JANET HART

Janet Hart, 92, of Fulda, MN passed away at the Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, MN on January 5, 2026. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Iona Presbyterian Church in Iona at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. RANDY SWAN

Randy Swan, 68, of Fulda, MN, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at Golden Horizons in Worthington, MN. The son of Harris “Swanie” and Delores “Dee” (Dass) Swan, he was born on June 8, 1957, in Slayton, MN and baptized on July 7, 1957. Randy grew up in Fulda, MN, and attended St Paul’s Lutheran School. He was confirmed on April 4,1971. Randy graduated from Fulda High School in 1975. He worked part-time at Red Owl grocery store in Fulda while attending high school. Randy attended Jackson Technical College and graduated with a 2-year degree in auto body repair and restoration. He then went to work in the auto body shop for Steffens/ Towlerton Motor Co. in Windom, MN. Randy most recently worked for Grothe Prosteam for many years, retiring in November 2024. In his younger years, Randy enjoyed playing softball. Randy also loved older cars and trucks, spending many hours repairing and restoring vehicles in his shop for friends and family. He was a perfectionist and took great care in the work that he did for others.

MAXINE TIMMERMAN

Mass of Christian Burial for Maxine Timmerman, 80, of Balaton, took place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation was Sunday from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Tracy. Interment followed the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy. Maxine Delores Timmerman was born on May 30, 1945, to Nels and Myrtle (Warne) Paulson in DeSmet, SD. She was the seventh of eleven children. Maxine spent her childhood in South Dakota. She graduated from Erwin High School in 1964.

WILFRED “BUD” SPAETH

Wilfred Ambrose “Bud” Spaeth, of Morgan, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in his hometown on December 15, 2025, at the age of 91. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bud will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, and generous spirit. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan with burial to follow in the St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A visitation was held one and half hour prior to his service from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the church.

PATRICIA “PAT” ANN STRUIKSMA

Patricia “Pat” Ann Struiksma was born on June 27, 1954, to William and Gertrude Olivier on their family farm near Chandler, MN. She was baptized and attended Chandler Reformed Church. She received her education from Chandler-Lake Wilson School and graduated in 1973.

DOUGLAS LUBBEN

Douglas Michael Lubben, the son of Robert and Ada (Kolander) Lubben, was born on March 19, 1953, in Worthington, MN. He attended school in Round Lake, MN and graduated from the Fulda High School. Doug was united in marriage to Susan Daniels on September 30, 1972, and to this union 3 children were born. They lived in the Fulda and Slayton areas until they later divorced. Doug remained in the Fulda area and on February 26, 2000, he married Robyn Staples. After their marriage dissolved, he lived in Fulda and could be seen having morning coffee at Antonio’s, attending his grandkids activities, fishing, fixing or repairing something or taking his turn on the “Fulda neighborhood watch”. Doug passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton, MN surrounded by his family at the age of 72.

SANDRA WIDBOOM

Sandra Lee Widboom, lovingly known as Sandy, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 70, in Greenville, Texas. Sandy was born on December 30, 1954, in Slayton, Minnesota, to Dorothy and Howard Gehlsen.
