It is now mid-September. The garden is doing ok. Another big event passed this week - the first day of Autumn That is when the amount of daylight and darkness are equal. And so the days are continuing to get shorter.

I sat within the cubicle at our local bank, digging through a Safety Deposit Box. I was moving…moving that which was within the three long metal boxes…to one with more holding power. It was a good day!

Slayton City Council met on Monday, September 20th with all Council members in attendance. The meeting agenda was approved as were the meeting minutes from the September 8th meeting. The claims for the month were also reviewed and approved.

The Slayton City Council met on Wednesday, September 8th. The meeting was called to order and the meeting minutes from the August 16th and 26th meetings were reviewed. The claims for the past few weeks were also reviewed and approved.

Sports are one of the highlights of the school year for youth. Football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling and many more, are all sports which youth of all ages look forward to during the school year. However, with sports or any activity, youth are subject to the risk of receiving a concussion.

The Murray County Historical Society invites you to set aside time in your schedule to learn some of the unique stories found in the county’s cemeteries. From Friday October 1 through Monday October 11 a self-guided tour of gravestones in two of the county’s cemeteries will be available. This year’s tour will focus on the Northwest corner of the country featuring the Zion Lutheran and Skandia Free Cemeteries (a third cemetery may be added, check our Facebook page for updates). During the tour dates, interpretive graveside signs will be placed near selected stones which will tell the life and times of the person buried there.
