It’s that time of year when students across the country sharpen their pencils and their handwriting skills to compete in the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest. This contest offers students the opportunity to practice and perfect their handwriting with the potential to earn some serious bragging rights. Students in kindergarten through second grade compete in the manuscript (print) category, while students in grades three through eight compete in the cursive category.

The MCC Rebel Softball team opened the week on the road in Sanborn looking to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Rebels took on Red Rock Central Westbrook Walnut Grove in a battle of two of the youngest teams in the conference. The Rebels who have struggled early in games got the bats working early on their way to an impressive offensive game and victory.

After two years of inactivity, the City Limits Bar and Grill on Juniper Avenue in Slayton is open for business! The large restaurant and outdoor patio have been a favorite venue for delicious meals, receptions and parties for many years and the new owners and managers are excited to welcome everyone back. Currently open on Wednesdays through Sundays with a basic menu, they look forward to expanding hours and choices in the next few months.

It’s time to end Minnesota’s special education cross-subsidy There seems to be a constant chatter at the Legislature about the $9.25 billion surplus. Many organizations want a piece of the surplus.

Chant Mitchell was named 3rd Team All-Area by the Worthington Globe. Chant led the team in points, assists, and blocks. He was second in rebounds and third in steals. Coach Tim Cariveau stated, “He also was the vocal leader of a top 25 defense in Class A in points allowed for 3 seasons and in his 2.5 years of starting, each year the teams improved their overall record, and conference and section standings.”
