MCC was on the road Friday in Wabasso to take on the Rabbits in a non-conference softball matchup. The Rabbits are a very well schooled team that was coming off a 15-1 win over Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday. The Rabbits have a very balanced offense where they can hit with some power and mix in the bunt and run game. In this game, the Rabbits would use the bunt and run game with some terrific defense.

Murray County Central Varsity Rebels two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as Murray County Central defeated HLO/F 34-0 on Thursday. Krew Schneider struck out K. Spittle to get the last out of the game.

Both teams were strong on the mound Monday, but RRC/ WWG was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the hometown Rebels. Derek Kluis was on the mound for the Rebels Varsity, pitching all 7 innings, recording 13 strikeouts, allowing three hits and two runs.

The Murray County Central Softball team opened their season this past week with a pair of games on Thursday and Friday. The Rebels opened the regular season on Thursday with a Red Rock Conference game at Okabena against Heron Lake Okabena Fulda. The Rebels followed it up with a non conference game in Wabasso. The Rebels have practiced for four weeks, mostly indoors, with three practices outside, just one coming on a softball field and the other two in parking lots. Like every team in the area this spring, the first few games will be getting acclimated to playing outside.

The MCC Rebels were at home for the first time this season on Tuesday. The Rebels would play host to Red Rock Central Westbrook Walnut Grove. The Rebels split with the Charging Falcons a year ago and the Rebels were looking to get their second win in the Red Rock Conference this season. The Rebels have struggled to put the ball in play in their first two games of the season but the Rebels would get runners on base and they would drive them in on Tuesday night.

Derek Kluis came to the ballpark and meant business on Friday, driving in four teammates on three hits to lead the Murray County Central Rebels past Pipestone 15-8. The base paths were crowded in this high scoring game, The Rebels collected 12 hits while the Arrows had 8. One went out of the park for the Rebels with a long ball from Paulzine in the fourth inning. Others hitting bat to ball multiple times were Connor DeGreeff and Derek Kluis. DeGreeff went 4 -4 at the plate leading the Murray County Central Rebels to their second victory of the season.

The Murray County Central boys varsity cruised to an easy victory over MLA/C Tuesday afternoon in an 11-1 win in Slayton at Boelter Field. MLA/C got the bats going right away in the first inning with Jake Evers driving in a run, leading after the first, 1-0. The Rebels bats got going and totaled 15 hits on the day, with Christian Tentinger leading the team going 3-3. Other players hitting multiple times were Derek Kluis, Carter Benda, Krew Schneider and Abe Paulzine.
