Many years ago, I was having a conversation with a minister from a large denomination and I mentioned to him that I have eternal life. He snapped at me and said, “How can you say that? Who can even know what eternal life is?” I said, “I know what it is because Jesus clearly told us what it is in His prayer to His Father in John 17:3; “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” In August of 1972 I knelt down by my bed while serving in the Philippines. I opened my heart to God after hearing the good news of the gospel. I repented of all my sin and asked Jesus Christ to come into my heart and cleanse me of all my sin with His precious blood. (His blood is the only thing in all of the universe that can wash away our sin). Water baptism and your good works can never save you; we are only cleansed by the blood of the Lamb. Water baptism always follows salvation.

We’ve said many times a season does not come in a day. There are quite a few signs when Spring is coming. And so on the rest of the year.

St. Paul, MN (Sept 15-18, 2023) – 4-H youth from Murray County participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Horse show Sept. 15-1,8 2023. This year, 608 youth from across the state participated in the annual event at the Minnesota State Fair. 4-H’ers demonstrate their skills and knowledge in hippology (showing knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry), horse judging (study of an animal, measuring it against an accepted ideal), horse training and achievement, speech, and demonstrations about interest in horses or the horse industry, showmanship and drill team skills.

The game of baseball has always meant much to Slayton and its people. Now a native son whose family has an extensive connection to both the town and the game has written a book detailing our community’s love affair with America’s Pastime.

The Murray County Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Services became the first ambulance service in Minnesota to partner with Avel eCare EMS this past week when its ambulance crew took part in “Go Live” training with Avel eCare leaders.

Question: I read your column in the newspaper but don’t think I’ve seen this question. When traveling in the Twin Cities with the required number of passengers in your car, can you use the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes? Do you need to have a transponder set to carpool or some setting to indicate you meet the minimum number of passengers? I often have enough passengers but no transponder.

With two and a half weeks under our belt here at MCC, students are starting to settle into the school routine. Teachers are giving some of their first tests and quizzes, and students are busily studying, taking notes and relearning how to stay organized for their classes. It feels good to be getting back in the swing of things and have the hallways full once again.
