By John Stenen Jesus said to the Church in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” What kind of power? Power over sin, (read Rom. 6:). Power over Satan and his demonic forces, (Luke 10:19-20). Power to live righteous and holy lives before God and man. There is Power to tear down every stronghold the enemy may have built in your life; such as anger, hate, bitterness, drunkenness, drugs, perversion, etc. We Christians will never be perfect, for Scripture tells us that if we say we have no sin, we are liars, (1 John 1:8-10). However, Christians should have a much higher moral standard than the world around us, (1 Tim.6:11). The apostle James tells us that we must be doers of the Word, and not just hearers, for if we are just hearers of the Word and not doers, we deceive ourselves, (James 1:19-25). By the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives, we can live a holy life before God. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord,” In the end, if we are just playing games with God, we lose out on His free gift of everlasting life. Slayton City Council accepted an anonymous donation of $50,000 to the Fire Department during their Monday meeting. The donation will be used to purchase battery-operated combination extrication equipment. The new items will replace tools purchased in the 1990’s. The council approved the quote for the equipment and then declared the old equipment as surplus.

During a quick meeting on Tuesday, March 17, the Murray County Commissioners questioned County Engineer Randy Groves on the progress of the Valhalla Road/CSAH 13 construction project heading into spring.

Dust off your flapper dresses and fedoras and step back in time for an evening of glamour, great food, and big band music! The Friends of the Casey Jones State Trail will host a Speakeasy-Themed Gala on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Hadley Community Center.

We finally had a good snowstorm. The school kids got a day off from school for it. We could still have more snowstorms yet. Officially Winter will be over Friday, March 20th. We could have a snowstorm that day too. We may have had one in past years. We don’t consider winter over until mid-April. Time will tell again this year. Then when Spring arrives weather wise we hope you will be ready again this year.
