LETTER TO THE EDITOR Sadly, I woke up this morning to find 2 of my Harris/Walz and 1 Amy Klobuchar signs stolen out of my garden area. I purposely put them in my garden thinking no one would have the audacity to come into our yard and steel them! After driving around our area of Slayton, we saw that all signs that were displayed on streets were gone, none on the avenues.

By Joanne Bergman The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, October 01, 2024. Auditor Treasurer Heidi Winter presented one request for Subordination of a septic system loan with action of the board to approve it. The Board accepted three donations for the third quarter of the year. Phil Kramer and the Murray County Ag Society each paid to offset the cost of a new bench for use during the fair. The Peoples Association of Lake Sarah (PALS) donated $2000 to offset the cost of the picnic shelter in East Lake Sarah Park.

By Allie Paulzine, Student Reporter The Murray County Central Warriors hosted their home meet on Tuesday, September, 24th. The Slayton golf course is notorious for the challenging hills, the harshest one named “Bertha”.

The MCC Rebels were at home for the second consecutive week on Friday, playing host to the Saint James Area Saints. The Rebels entered the game 2-2 on the season. The Rebels got a comfortable win in week one over LQPV but the next three games have all come down to the final minute of play, with the Rebels losing two of the three games. Saint James Area was 1-3 on the year with one of their losses coming by just one point to Windom. The Rebels wouldn’t allow this game to be close, as the Rebels defense was terrific and the offense played as well as it has all year.

The MCC Rebels were in Bertha, Minnesota for a weekend tournament to face teams they wouldn’t normally face in a tournament closer to home. It gave the team a chance to bond and play some competitive volleyball. This would be the first of back to back weekends of tournament volleyball, as the Rebels will play in the Jimmy Johns Classic in Marshall this coming Friday and Saturday.

The MCC Rebels were back at home on Tuesday night. The Rebels played host to the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Rebels and the Dutchmen are two of the teams in the middle of the Subsection 3A South standings and in the middle of the Red Rock Conference. With the season quickly coming to an end, each win becomes that much more important for teams hoping to host a first round playoff game. The Rebels would leave no doubt who was the better team on Tuesday.

There’s a chill in the air, the leaves are falling, and FOOTBALL IS IN FULL SWING! It has been an exciting season for the 5th and 6th Grade Tackle Football program this Fall. A tough 28 players are suiting up in full pads and helmets for practice twice a week to work on their offense and defense and prepare for their next opponent. Over the past few weeks, MCC has hosted HLO/F and RTR and has traveled to play TMB, Wabasso and Dawson-Boyd. Our teams will then travel to Minneota on October 5th and host Lakeview on October 12th.

The MCC Rebel Volleyball team continued their test week in the Red Rock Conference. The Rebels won their first four games in conference play before losing to SWC on Tuesday. On Thursday they hosted the WWG Chargers, who are another top team in the Red Rock Conference. Playing back to back games against the best teams allows you to see where you are at and how far you have to go to get to the top. The Rebels learned they have a ways to go to compete for a Conference Title.
