I’m Heading to My Class Reunion—I Think The call came. “Are you going to our class reunion?” The dread I felt manifested as a groan of sorts.

During a free, two-part presentation the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota will share tips for healthy living and how to spot the warning signs of dementia Heidi Haley-Franklin, Alzheimer’s Association Vice President of Programs, will present this educational session on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 2:30 - 4:30 pm at the 4-H Building of Murray County Fairgrounds at 3048 Broadway Avenue in Slayton. The Chandler American Legion Auxiliary met on Sept. 17, at 1:30 p.m. with President Patsy Buys presiding. Geri gave the opening devotions. The Auxiliary sang the National Anthem, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, held a moment of silence in memory of our deceased members and repeated the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

The Murray County Foundation raises funds from alumni and friends of educational advancement. In 2024, the Foundation is pleased to announce an award of $6,500 for the scholarship program at Murray County Central High School. The school uses the funding to make awards to individual students for post secondary education. The student awards are based on the recommendation of a committee that includes representatives of the school and the public. The criteria used by the committee include academic achievement, citizenship and economic need.

The Slayton City Council met in regular session on October 7, 2024 with all council members present. The agenda was approved with no additions. The minutes from the last meeting and claims were approved.

Staying Healthy this Fall With the start of fall, we will soon be seeing respiratory illnesses in addition to the fall allergies we are seeing already. This often happens when we are spending more time indoors with one another and celebrating holidays. Some common viral illnesses expected are Influenza and COVID-19.

Question: Hello, we read your column every week. I’ve noticed more often lately on numerous occasions that when a school bus is stopped and dropping-off or picking-up kids, they do NOT have their red lights flashing or their STOP arm extended. The bus will only have the yellow lights flashing. When searching the internet for school bus rules/regulations I can only find information related to how other drivers are required to respond, rather I’m interested in what the bus driver is required to do. I was unaware that there are potential scenarios where the bus driver is not required to force traffic to stop. My question: What are the rules/regulations with respect to a school bus that is stopping to drop-off or pick-up kids, when are they required to activate the red flashing lights and extend the STOP arm, rather than just activating the yellow flashing lights?
