TRACK STARTS SEASON WITH DICK DAVIDSON INVITE

On Thursday, April 4th, the MCC Track teams hosted six other teams for the Dick Davidson Invitational. Dick Davidson led the Slayton/MCC Track teams for 34 years. During his tenure, he guided 31 individual events and 25 relay teams that placed in the top 9 at the state meet. His teams placed at the MSHSL State top ten 7 times (5 boys, 2 girls) winning boys state in 1978 and in the State True Team meet 15 times (11 boys, 4 girls) winning boys state in 1988, 1989, and 1997. He is a member of the Minnesota Cross Country Hall of Fame, Minnesota Track Hall of Fame, and Murray County Central Hall of Fame. Currently, Coach Davidson officiates high school meets and would do that to the one that bears his name.

In the boys’ sprints, track and field newcomers Anikan Larson and Andrew Holm placed 2nd and 5th in the 200-meter dash. Hurdlers Blaine Braun and Carter Knakmuhs placed 4th and 5th in the 300 hurdles. Mid-distance runner Alex Betz placed 2nd in the 800 while another newcomer, Hudson Schryvers, placed 4th. Wesley Hause was runner-up in the mile.

In the field events, Caleb Rosenbrook placed second in the pole vault. Carter Knakmuhs finished 5th in the high jump. Thrower Broox Platt was 5th in the discus and 6th in the shot put.

The 4x400 relay team of Holms, Schryvers, Beckett Stelter, and Betz took top honors, crossing the finish line first. Stelter and Betz teamed up with Hause and Henry Carlson, another new addition to the team, placed 3rd in the 4x800. Sprinters Ben Ahlers, Jackson Schroeder, Carson Engelkes, and Luke Iverson placed 4th in the 4x200 and 5th in the 4x100.

On the girls side, there were three individual champions on the day. Brylei Schreier won the 400-meter dash, Sophia Nelson was the 800-meter run winner, and Lindsey Hause crossed the line first in the 300 hurdles. Holland Vogel was runner-up in the 3200. Other distance runners, Oliva Kathman (800) and Emma Risacher (1600) each placed 5th. Brealyn Damm placed 3rd in the long jump and 4th in the 100 hurdles and high jump. Abby Overman came in 4th in the triple jump and Lindsey Hause was 5th in the high jump. Rounding out the field events, Erica Doeden was 3rd in the discus while fellow thrower Callie Platt was 5th.

In the relays, the 4x200 team (Abby Overman, Jada Hellewell, Courtney Gengler, Chloe Kremer) and the 4x800 team (Lindsey Hause, Charu Paulzine, Lily Daniels, Sophia Nelson) each placed 3rd.
