The Murray County Central Rebels opened their home schedule by taking on Red Rock Conference Rival Adrian Ellsworth on Friday night. The Rebels struggled with turnovers against TMB in their first outing of the season but they wouldn’t see near the pressure from the Dragons on Friday. The Rebels would also have a quickness advantage in their overall lineup compared to the Dragons even though Adrian Ellsworth would have the best individual player in the game. The Rebels would put together a good defensive first half but MCC would dominate the second half on their way to victory. The first half would see two very different styles between the two teams. Adrian Ellsworth’s Sadie Krahling was red hot from the field scoring 15 early points. For much of the first half the Dragon guard outscored the Rebels by herself but the longer the game went the tougher it became for Krahling to score. The Rebels struggled to score over the first five minutes of the game but as the Rebels rotated in their players the defense got better and better and the team was able to create fouls. MCC went to the line in the first half and scored half of their points from the charity stripe. Casey Miller and Jayda Hellewell scored 7 points each in the first half and they were the only Rebels to make shots from the field. The other six points were scored at the free throw line. Adrian Ellsworth got 15 points from Krahling but the rest of the team scored 6. The Dragons led at halftime 21 to 20.

MCC came out strong in the second half showing plenty of energy. The Rebels defense was strong and Casey Miller was as aggressive as she has ever been shooting the basketball. The senior found good spots in which to shoot from and she was knocking them down. The Rebels defense forced the Dragons to find offense from players other than Krahling and they struggled to do so as the Rebels found a hot hand. Mary Lou McNab played a terrific second half scoring 14 points including a pair of three point shots and down the stretch she would make 4 free throws. The Rebels would outscore the Dragons in the second half 29 to 16 on their way to the win 49 to 37.

The Rebels and the Dragons did not shoot well from the floor but MCC shot 25% compared to the Dragons 21%. Where MCC excelled was at the free throw line where the Rebels made 16 of 23 free throws and the Dragons made 9 of 16. The Rebels out rebounded the Dragons 40 to 30. MCC was led by McNab’s 16 points but Miller added 14 and Hellewell chipped in with 11. Zoey Iverson was the game high rebounder with 11 and Hellewell chipped in with 9. Sadie Krahling led the Dragons with 18 points but she didn’t make a shot from the field in the second half. MCC will have two home games coming up against Hills Beaver Creek and Mountain Lake Area Comfrey.
