The MCC Rebel Girls were on the road Monday night as they traveled to Cottonwood to take on the Lakeview Lakers. Both teams had practiced just one time in the last week which set up an interesting matchup of two one-win teams. The Rebels’ were hoping to bounce back after blowing a 13-point lead over the last 12 minutes of their game against Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The Lakers had a 3 game losing streak heading into Monday’s matchup but the young Laker team was hoping to see some positive improvements taking on the Rebels. It would be a higher-scoring first half than expected but the Rebels came through.

The Lakers got off to the good start with Korysa Herrick leading the way with 8 first-half points and Shelby Justensen and Aubriegh Rausch would score 6 points each in the opening 18 minutes. The Rebels really struggled with turnovers early in the game which would allow the Lakers to take the lead. MCC would get themselves better adjusted throughout the first half and when they did they got some very open shots. The Rebels got an inside-outside duo working in the first half. Abby Overman scored 8 points on mid-range jump shots and by driving to the basket. Seanna Swenson was the inside force scoring 8 points on her own. Jayda Hellewell connected on a pair of three-point shots to score 6 points in the first half. The Rebels would lead at the break 33 to 28.

The Rebels would find the hot hand in the second half and they would give her the ball as much as possible. Seanna Swenson scored 14 points in the second and she did it by scoring all over the floor. Swenson scored inside and outside on her way to a season-high 22 points. The Rebels needed another player to help lead the way and Jayda Hellewell became that player scoring eight second-half points. The Rebels would take the win 59 to 44.

The Rebels dominated the offensive side of the ball on their way to a win. Aubriegh Rausch
