GOOD NEWS

By John Stenen A woman who had considered herself a good Christian worker said to a minister one day, “My husband was seriously ill and I cried unto God to heal him, but God did not answer my prayer and my husband died. Because of that, I do not believe in God anymore.” The minister replied, “Have you carefully obeyed 1 John 3:22? There are many things that He has commanded us to do such as forgive everyone who might offend us, and love one another, submit to one another, help the poor, support the gospel, attend Church, be a soul winner, live by faith, etc.” She honestly answered and said, “No, there are many areas of my life where I have been disobedient to God’s Word.” The minister said, “Then God has not failed you, you have failed God.”

If you think we as Christians can live in disobedience and expect the blessings of God every time we pray, we are sadly mistaken. Read what happened to King Saul of Israel when he disobeyed God. The Bible says to obey is better than sacrifice and that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. (1 Sam. 15: 2223). Read of Ananias and his wife in Acts 5: when they were dishonest before God and see what happened to them. Scripture tells us in Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity (wickedness) in my heart, the Lord will not hear my prayer.” We Christians can not live as those in the world do; God sets a much higher standard, and when we fail, we must be quick to repent and walk in the light as He (Jesus) is in the light. Read 1 John 1:5-9. God greatly desires to answer our prayers when we live a life that is pleasing to Him. If we trust the Holy Spirit each day to live a life pleasing to God, He will enable us to do so. Are you getting along well with your husband or wife? If not, even that will hinder your prayers. (1Pet. 3: 1-12). God bless.
