Slayton City Council met on Monday, December 19th, Blake Heronimus and Chris Jacobson were absent from this week’s meeting. The Council started by approving the agenda with additions and reviewed the minutes for the December 5th meeting. The claims were reviewed and approved as well. The City has received an $800 donation from Barak & Katie Bjorge, for all that was done when their son, William died in an accident at the Fairgrounds on 8-17-2002. They were especially grate-ful for Andy Kleven’s efforts. The Council has decided to spend the money to improve the medical equipment in the squad cars.

Pending Business: There is a possible lead for an Elder care facility in Slayton. Mayor Miron Carney, City Administrator Josh Malchow and Lynn Johnson (Operation Prairie Venture) will meet with a Minnesota developer to discuss this. The Council will also look into making Food Truck Licenses renewable yearly.

Unfinished Business: The Council next approved the Broadband GrantAgreement contingent on approval of the County and Woodstock Communications. The Final Budget Levy was certified at $1,125,573.00. This is a 6.9% increase. They next opened the Public Hearing for Truth and Taxation on the Final Budget and Levy. With no comments, the Hearing was closed. They also approved the hiring of Edgar Ibarra as a new police officer and promoted Jesse Hoffmann to the Sergeant position at the Slayton Police Department. Lastly, they accepted quotes from MPH Industries for radar for one of the squad cars.

After tabling the 34th Street project, the Council approved pagers for the Fire Department, these are within their 2022 budget.
