You may be wondering what we do at Soils FFA, I’m here to tell you about it and how much fun it is! Let’s get started, we judge soils based on the color and texture and we put our answers down on a scorecard. The soil types can be based on where the soil is from, how far down it is dug and even how wet or dry it is. There are about 15 different options to choose from on what type of soil it is.
Next I’m gonna tell you about how we choose the color. The color choices are bright, dull, and mottled. We got told to only use the bright and mottled colors and to never use dull. So we judge the color based on the shade and how well drained it is. If it is well drained it is bright and if it is somewhat poorly drained it is mottled.
Our soils team consists of Chloe Kremer, Holland Vogel, Aubrey Biegler, Kinsley Guza and we are coached by Lauren Biegler. We’ve had so much fun practicing and learning all about soil. We had a great time at our first competition placing 5th and qualifying for State FFA Convention in April.
