GREEN THUMB

July 4th is past and our gardening continues. This writer was at the Slayton Farmers’ Market this past Thursday.

One seller said she had been there four weeks already. In the beginning it was mostly canned goods. Gardening produce of this year is now appearing.

She had giant rhubarb spears, giant onions and a few other garden produce.

The onions were of the size for one slice onion which would cover a whole hamburger,

More produce to come when it is big enough to pick.

Otherwise it would help if we got a little more rain.

Along that line we did notice most corn is at least knew high and some shoulder high (for adults) so a good crop will be expected - if no hail or other catastrophe.

On the non-gardening side - we notice several lightning bugs helping to illuminate your yard at night. Haven’t seen any in our yard for quite a few years.

Back inside the house be sure to water your house plants. Until next week.
