Rebel Roundup

With two and a half weeks under our belt here at MCC, students are starting to settle into the school routine. Teachers are giving some of their first tests and quizzes and students are busily studying, taking notes and relearning how to stay organized for their classes. It feels good to be entering some semblance of a “normal” school year. Students and staff seem more relaxed this year after the unknowns of last year’s COVID year. While we know that things can change on a dime with numbers, mandates, and requirements, we remain hopeful.

REBEL FOOTBALL WINS FIRST HOME GAME OF 2021 SEASON

The MCC Rebels opened the home portion of their schedule last Friday night when they played host to the school that ended their season a year ago. The MCC Rebels and the Wabasso Rabbits squared off twice last season with MCC beating the Rabbits in Marshall at Southwest Minnesota State University 20-12 but the Rebels would fall in the Section title game in Slayton 28 to 15. Both teams have changed a great deal since Wabasso graduated a large senior class while the Rebels also lost many key skill position players from a year ago. The Rebels entered the game ranked second in state and they were looking to take care of business.

REBEL VOLLEYBALL DROPS FIRST CONFERENCE MATCH

The Rebels lost a big match against the Adrian Dragons Tuesday night. MCC started the night off with the serve. The Rebels had a few attacking errors, but bounced back quickly. Adrain and MCC went point for point through the first half of the set. The Dragons caught the Rebels off guard a few times with big swings from their left handed hitters. From there MCC started to play timid and make mistakes, costing them the set 17-25. Game two started off in similar fashion, but the Dragons were able to slowly gain a lead.

REBELS DOMINATED WOLVERINES IN SEASON OPENER

The Murray County Central Rebels opened the 2021 high school football season in Maynard this past Thursday night against the Wolverines of MACCRAY. The Rebels will have 3 new teams on the schedule this season one of which is the Wolverines who have a new head coach in Cole Christopher. The Rebels return some key seniors from last year’s team but many of the offensive skill positions have new starters like Abe Paulzine at quarterback and Jaden Deacon at runningback. The Rebels and the Wolverines probably felt more like fish this past week due to the rain but the Rebels would prove to be way too much for the Wolverines to handle.

KNIGHTS SWEEP REBELS ON NEW COURT

The Rebels traveled to Tyler Friday night to take on the Knights in their brand new gym. MCC was excited to play in the new facility, but knew it would be a challenge. The two faced off earlier in a preseason scrimmage, but now both teams had a setter out due to knee injuries. The biggest thing the Rebels needed for the night was energy!

REBELS FALL SHORT AT TRIANGULAR

The Rebels traveled to Luverne this past week to participate against Luverne and West Lyon in a triangular. MCC started off the evening playing an experienced West Lyon team. Game one started off well for the Rebels. The two teams battled back and forth for a while. However, the Wildcats were able to carry the tempo and gain the advantage in the middle of the set. MCC struggled with errors, and that was enough room for West Lyon to take the win 16-25. The second set started off with multiple errors by the Rebels. The Wildcats gained a big lead and the momentum right away. MCC tried getting back into winning position, but could not knock down their errors. West Lyon won the set 14-25, taking the match in two.
