LEWIS C. MILLER

Lewis Miller of Dawson, formerly of Balaton, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, MN at the age of 75. Lewis Clair Miller was born September 10, 1947, in Slayton, MN to Louis and Mildred (Jacobson) Miller.

DARROLD E. PECK

Darrold E. Peck, age 83 of Garvin, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield, Minnesota. Darrold E. Peck was born October 10, 1938 to Edward and Margaret (Klein) Peck in Springdale Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. Darrold grew up on a farm south of Garvin; attended Tracy High School, and graduated from the Springfield High School after his family moved to Springfield. He was in the Tracy National Guard until his car accident in 1960. Darrold started his working life as a butcher in the Nelson Locker Plant in Springfield; he then worked as the meat cutter at the Eibner Restaurant in New Ulm. On August 20, 1960, he was on his way back to New Ulm from a date with his girlfriend, Berneida Wendland, when he was involved in a head-on auto collision which resulted in a broken jaw and hip. After recuperating, he went back to work as a Fuller Brush salesman and then a grave monument salesman for Bloedel Monuments of New Ulm. On March 10, 1962, Darrold and Berneida were married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield. While living there, Darrold went to Granite Falls Technical College for 2 years of bookkeeping after which he went to work in bookkeeping in Vigorena Feeds in Springfield. In 1967 they were blessed with a daughter, Kelijo Roxanne, and in 1968 a son, Darren Henry. In 1969, they moved to Northfield and Darrold went to work for GT Schjeldahl Company in accounting. In 1973, his boss moved and took a job in Worthington at Bedford Industries. He called Darrold and asked him to apply for an office position in that company. The couple then moved to Worthington where Darrold was employed with Bedford in many office positions and retired in 2003 as their Purchasing Agent. In 2001, Darrold and Berneida moved to their retirement home in Lake Shetek – a few miles south of Garvin. On August 29, 2016, Darrold moved into St. John’s Riverhaven in Springfield with dementia and in 2017 to the nursing home 2nd floor. This completed his Circle of Life.

GARY J. OSLUND

Gary John Oslund, 75, of Anaheim Ca passed away on September 25, 2022 following a battle with ALS. Gary was born in Tyler, MN to Gordon and Edith (Stoneberg) Oslund on November 9, 1946 and raised on the family farm in Chandler, MN.

IRIS J. KLEIN

Iris Joy Klein, the daughter of Raymond and Malo Norton was born on February 6,1930 in Slayton, MN. She grew up on a farm near Westbrook, MN and attended Dist. 67 Country School and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1947. Iris was united in marriage to Gerald Klein on October 9, 1949 in Worthington, MN. After their marriage they lived in Worthington and later Dundee Before moving to Aurora, IL. Iris worked at Richard’s Wilcox as a File Clerk. After their retirement in 1987 they moved to Slayton, MN. Iris remained in their home after Jerry passed away in July of 2018. Iris passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton at the age of 92. She was a member of the Slayton United Methodist Church. Iris was a lifetime member of the PTA and a past Slayton Country Club Board member. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and flowers, baking and crocheting.

GENE E. SEVEREID

Gene Severeid was born on November 29, 1934, to Arnold and Etta Sowden Severeid on the family farm in Lincoln County, MN. Gene attended Lake Benton Country School, and Verdi School until he was in the 4th grade. The family moved to Lake Wilson in 1945 and Gene attended Country School District #69 in Cameron Township. He attended school through the 8th grade and then went to help his dad on the family farm. Gene worked for Archer Daniels Midlen, Corn Shellers and the railroad. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1958 and was stationed in Giesen, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1960 with a letter of accommodation from the U.S. 7th Army for making a tool to straighten frames on artillery gun carriers. In 1963 Gene and his brother-in-law, Ken DeZeeuw bought the service station in Lake Wilson and changed the name to Gene and Ken’s Service. In 1977 Gene married Sharon Folkerts. They made their home in Lake Wilson and raised their two daughters. Gene and Ken ran the station until Ken’s death in 1985. Gene then changed the name to Gene’s Service. He remained working there until his retirement in 2002. Gene loved being a mechanic. Gene passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 87. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Lake Wilson American Legion Post, and the Lake Wilson Community Club. Gene most enjoyed his family and watching his grandchildren grow. In retirement Gene enjoyed golf cart rides, Nascar, visiting with neighbors and attending happy hour with he and Sharon’s group of friends.

VIRGINIA “GINNY” A. KROHN

Ginny Krohn, 79, of Slayton, was surrounded by loved ones when she peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Our House Hospice Home in Slayton. Ginny was born on May 29, 1943, in Slayton, MN to Howard and Vivian Frick Schwartz. She grew up in Slayton and married Fred Christensen on April 9, 1960. Together, the couple had two children, Lisa Ann and Thomas Fred. Fred passed away on June 14, 1967, as the result of a car accident. Ginny was blessed to find love again with Terry Lee Krohn. The couple wed on June 29, 1968, in Las Vegas, NV. They also made their home in Slayton and to this union they had two sons, Brian Lee and Brent Michael.

ARVIN D. COHRS

Arvin D. Cohrs, age 80 of Westbrook, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Sanford Westbrook Medical Center.

LTC ROBERT J. SHORT

LTC Robert John Short, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24 surrounded by his wife Carol and all their children. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, as well as a respected friend and neighbor.
