DONALD E. ANDERSON, JR.

Donald Edwin Anderson Jr., of Plainfield, IL, age 64, unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 2023. He was born in Slayton, Minnesota on December 16, 1958, the son of Donald Edwin Sr. and Janet Anne nee Smith Anderson.

DOROTHY A. MEARS

Dorothy Anna Mears departed this life peacefully on November 22, 2022. She was 100 years old and was known for her humor, kindness, compassion, and positive outlook on life.

DORIS E. FISCHER

Doris E. Fischer, wife of Sylvester Fischer (deceased 2011), age 90 of Slayton, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center. Private family services will be held at a later date.

ROBERT W HANSON

ROBERT W. HANSON Robert Hanson died on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 93 years young.

ORVILLE “ORV” E. GRIEME

Orv Grieme was born on November 21, 1927, in Pipestone, Minnesota to Ernest and Elizabeth Helmke Grieme. He grew up on the family farm near Lake Wilson, MN and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1945. Orv enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1946. Following his retuned from the Navy Orv attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD graduating with a Business Degree. On August 14, 1953, he, and Sharlotte “Shar” Heggen were married at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton. In 1955 Orv started his own accounting and tax preparation business in Slayton. Orv and Shar always enjoyed spending family time at the cabin on Ottertail Lake. Shar passed away in February 2017. In 2018 Orv retired at the young age of 89 and moved to Monticello, MN to be near family. Orv passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 95. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton holding several offices as well as teaching Sunday School. Orv served on many boards over his 70 years in Slayton like the Murray County Fair Board, Slayton School Board, and Slayton Cemetery Board. He also was an active member of the Slayton Kiwanis and a big supporter of high school athletics. In his younger days Orv played baseball for both the Hadley and Slayton teams as well as coaching Little League Baseball. Orv enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, sports, fishing, playing cards and the Minnesota Gophers.

ROBERT J. MOLITOR

Robert Molitor age 66 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Robert James Molitor was born December 30, 1956, in Slayton, Minnesota to William and Sally (Metz) Molitor.

JUDITH (JUDY) M. BUSE

Judy Buse, age 79 of Woodstock, MN, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023. Judy was born in Pomona, CA, January 10, 1944, to parents Arthur and Frances (Zakrahdnik) Van Horn.

DOROTHY A. VAN MEVEREN

Dorothy Van Meveren was born on March 18, 1930, in Slayton, Minnesota to Alphonse and Esther Barrie Morin. She grew up on the family farm between Slayton and Currie and attended country school. On September 10, 1953, she, and Robert (Bob) Van Meveren were married at IHM Church in Currie. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Garvin, Currie, Levenworth and Slayton area raising their 10 children. In 1990 they retired and moved to Iona, MN. Bob passed away on August 6, 2004. Dorothy remained in Iona until 2016 when she moved to Golden Horizons in Worthington, MN. Dorothy passed way there on Monday, January 16, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 92. She was a former member of IHM Church in Currie and a member of St. Columba Church in Iona. Dorothy was a member of the quilting group, the CCW and the Catholic Daughters of America. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, puzzles, playing Bingo, fishing, canning, baking, and gardening.

MYRNA K. VAN EDE

Myrna Kay Van Dyk was born January 20, 1942 in Sibley, IA to parents Cornelius and Gertrude (Vos) Van Dyk and entered into death on January 4, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 16 days.

AVALON MARY ANN PAULSON

Avalon Paulson was born on June 6, 1927, on the family farm in Lowville Township, Murray County, Minnesota to William and Emma Oberg Kollowa. She grew on the family farm and graduated Slayton High School in 1945. On September 26, 1948, she and Wayne Paulson were married at her parents’ home near Hadley, MN. Following their marriage they farmed in Leeds Township, Murray County until Wayne’s death on May 23, 1958. Avalon and their young son, Walden then moved to Slayton. Avalon worked for Dr. Roger Asplin’s family and later at the Murray County Hospital in the kitchen and in housekeeping. She retired in 1989 after 22 years at the hospital. In October 2016 she became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda. She passed away there on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the age of 95. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and was active with the quilting group. Avalon volunteered at Slayton Senior Dining, R.S.V.P and the Slayton Manor. Avalon enjoyed being with her family and friends.
