WINDOM AREA HEALTH ADDS OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Dr. James Hinshaw joins surgical team; adds robotic surgery

WINDOM, MN –Windom Area Health is excited to announce the addition of Dr. James Hinshaw, Board Certified Obstetric and Gynecologist, to the community. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Hinshaw is an expert in minimally invasive gynecologic robotic surgery, making him an excellent addition to the team at Windom Area Health.

Dr. Hinshaw’s passion for medicine began at a young age, as he watched his father perform thoracic surgery. With a natural aptitude for the health sciences, he was drawn to OB/GYN as a specialty because of his love of surgery and his talent for it. He also enjoys working with a young and healthy patient population. “What’s nice about surgery is that you can have a precise and immediate effect on someone’s health due to surgery. That’s really gratifying,” Dr. Hinshaw explains.

With his addition will come the introduction of state-ofthe- art robotic surgery. Gynecologic robotic surgery is one of the latest innovations in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Using a narrow, lighted scope and miniature instruments controlled through a robotic system, gynecological surgeons are able to treat several conditions that affect a woman’s reproductive organs with more precision and gentleness, resulting in a better healing profile. Dr. Hinshaw is an expert in this field and believes it is the optimal way to operate.

Dr. Hinshaw’s top priority is his patients, and he focuses on listening and communicating with them to help them understand their conditions and find the best path forward. He will be seeing patients at Windom Area Health referred by obstetricians, primary care providers, urologists, urology/ gynecology providers, and primary care providers throughout the upper Midwest. Windom Area Health is thrilled to have Dr. Hinshaw join their team.

“It is an amazing addition to the community to have this caliber of care in Windom,” says Shelby Medina, CEO of Windom Area Health. “With the addition of Dr. Hinshaw, and more like him, our communities can be their healthiest right here at home.”

In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Hinshaw brings a wealth of experience to Windom Area Health. He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve (Enlisted April 2019), holds a degree in Zoology, and is an active outdoorsman. He was also a previous OB/GYN clinical faculty member, mentoring residents in Texas Tech El Paso and UW School of Medicine, Montana.
