After losing a couple of meets due to weather, the MCC Track teams added a meet in Worthington on April 27. This would be the biggest meet the Rebels would participate in up to this point of the season as twelve teams were entered.

The running events started out with one of the most anticipated relays on the day, the girls 4x800 relay. It features two of the state’s best teams; the Luverne Cardinals and MCC Rebels. Those two teams went 1-2 at the state meet last year and figure to be right up there again this year. Luverne would build a good sized lead early in the race but MCC would slowly close the gap in the last mile of the race. Unfortunately, they fell short coming in 2nd by just over one second. Relay members include: Brylei Schreier, Sophia Nelson, Ashley Overgaauw and Amanda Overgaauw. Schreier also ran in the open 400 where she too would place 2nd in a season best time of 64.09. Nelson was 3rd in the open 800 while teammate Megan Bakke was 5th. Junior higher Holland Vogel has been gaining valuable experience at the varsity meets as she placed 5th in the 3200m. Brealyn Damm, new to the hurdle races, placed 6th in the 100 hurdle race while also coming in 5th in the long jump. Fellow hurdler Lindsey Hause was 5th in the 300 hurdles and placed 4th in the high jump.

Alex Betz and Ashton Kalas were the top performers on the boys side as they each had top ten performances. Alex was 6th in the 800 and 10th in the 1600. Ashton placed 3rd in the 110 hurdles and 6th in the 300 hurdles.

With 30-45 entries in most of the events, placing was very difficult. In all, it was a great experience for the Rebel tracksters as they obtained 20 personal records between the boys’ and girls’ teams.
