GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark We are now in April and we remember the slogan: April showers bring May flowers. We sure need the rain this year. This has been one of the driest winters on record.

April also is the beginning of the growing season. Sometime this month we will get our garden and yard work going.

Along that line this writer has noticed the local newspaper inserts listing ads for fruit trees (especially apple), yard trees and shrubs along with grass ads and fertilizer.

In past columns we’ve talked about planning your garden layout and whatever needs doing in the yard and forest.

Along that line, when you get new trees and bushes be sure to read and carefully follow the planting and care directions. When they first some, directions usually say to start watering them - setting out the plant in a bucket or similar and along with water.

Then, when planting dig the right depth and location and help them along with some watering if it doesn’t rain.

That should get you started.

And also your garden planting too.

And, back inside the house, be sure to at least water your house plants too Until next week.
