The F/MCC Warriors had an excellent week with two home triangulars. One in Fulda and the other in Slayton, as well as a youth team tournament on Saturday.
Starting on January 4th against Redwood Valley and Minneota. First up was Redwood Valley and after a forfeit to Kaston Clarke, Thomas Pruitt was 1st to wrestle against Nolan Ourada and Pruitt put up a solid 6 minutes of wrestling and finished the match 16-11 giving up a regular decision.
The young Truman Olsem is an excellent competitor as a 7th grader and showed some real promise in his varsity debut taking on Nelson of Redwood Valley. Olsem gave up 4 points in the 1st period then scored on a reversal with back points scoring 5 then another takedown at the whistle had a 7-6 lead going into the 2nd period. Starting bottom in the 2nd period Nelson earned a quick reversal, but it didn’t deter Olsem, as he scored a reversal of his own. Olsem, with an 8-7 lead at the end of the 2nd period allowed an escape to start the 3rd period tied. The third period Olsem, started on bottom and waited for his opportunity. Isaiah Nelson tried for a tilt and got out of position. Olsem capitalized on the opportunity and pinned Nelson with a head lock. What a great match for our new 7th grader.
After a loss by Brayden Gilb at 127, Teague Meyer was up at 133 and caught a low single right away against Erler. Meyer, running legs got Erler off balance and with a deep half got Erler looking at the ceiling and scored the pin before the time ran out in the 1st period.
Aiden Lorenzen, against Amberg of Redwood Valley, scored 1st on a perfectly executed double leg. Then scored a nearfall on a cradle. With a restart Lorenzen’s next move was a knuckle roll half and Amberg countered. Lorenzen tried a tilt roll out of bounds again. Lorenzen chose for a neutral start and got in immediately on another single and allowed a point letting Amberg up then scoring on another double. Lorenzen eventually got into a solid knuckle roll half and finished the match with a pin.
Lucas Kuball and Max Dillon at 145. Kuball started the scoring with a single leg and got an armbar and a wrist for a nearfall. Then a leg ride turk for another nearfall going 8-0 into the 2nd period. Kuball, starting on top in the second period, suffered an escape by Dillon and a reversal. Kuball chose down for the third period with an 8-3 lead. Kuball suffered a loss by pin in the 3rd period.
Owen Olsem at 152 had Kramer of Redwood Valley, and scored the first points with a single leg, and couldn’t get a turn, as they went out of bounds with a solid pinning combination. Half way into the 2nd period Olsem kept the pressure forward scoring again, going from a single to a double and getting the takedown. Olsem kept good position and finished the match 4-0.
“Q” Quintin Lewis at 160 had Zachary Guggisberg. “Q” taking his time getting a feel for his opponent and when Guggisberg got in on a shot attempt, Lewis countered with an armbar getting his hips over for the pin.
Carson Lewis and Max Bentson at 172. Lewis, an aggressive athletic wrestler, scored the first takedown but gave up a reversal and nearfall going 5-2. Bentson kept wrestling and Lewis got out of position, giving up another nearfall. Going 11-4 into the second period, Bentson got the pin.
Luke Iverson got a nice duck under to a half four 4 at the end of the 1st period. Then starting the 2nd period on top, Iverson suffered a reversal and fought off a cradle and eventually got to the escape. With a reversal of his own and a Witzel “Ivy” scored 5 with a Witzel. Starting the third period, Hennen got in on a cradle and a guillotine, with Iverson fighting them both off and holding on to his lead, scored on another reversal increasing the lead 13-8 and gave up another takedown and escape but finished the match winning 14-12.
Carson Klein with a single leg takedown in the first period and a knuckle roll half for the pin in the second period got the win. After a forfeit in the HWT match the Warriors won the dual 48-21.
Under the solo spotlight against Minneota the atmosphere was set, as Kaston Clarke, up against Blake Mead scored 5 in the first period with a single leg, putting Mead to his back. Clarke held on through the match and finished 5-2, scoring the first point for the Warriors with a decision.
Minneota took the next 3 matches with a fall over Thomas Pruitt, a major decision over Truman Olsem and a technical fall over Brayden Gilb. Teague Meyer at 133, had Randy Sorenson and scored his first 4 points with a takedown into a cradle. In the second period, Meyer scored on a double leg and in an attempt for a turk, lost position and ended up underneath Sorenson, but didn’t give up any points. Leading 6-0 going into the third period Meyer scored on another takedown, looking for bonus points, he allowed an escape and eventually won with a decision.
Aiden Lorenzen had a nail biter, losing by decision 5-4 against Mason Javers with a couple of solid single leg take downs. But Javers, with the flying squirrel and a couple of seconds on the clock, scored a last second takedown, winning the match.
Lucas Kuball, against Chase Johnson at 145, scored first with an inside cradle and a takedown for 4 points early in the first period. With many cradle attempts both ways, Kuball ended up with the win, decision 11-4.
Quintin Lewis suffered a double arm throw early in the first period going down 5-0, then a cradle for 3, but Lewis got on the board breaking the cradle and scoring a reversal with a go behind against Brock Fier. Lewis couldn’t get ahead, scoring 2 nearfall points with a cradle with 10 seconds left, ending up losing 11-4 for a decision.
Owen Olsem went the distance against Destin Fier, losing 10-1 holding him to a major decision.
Carson Lewis, too, went the distance against Alex Depestel, holding him to a 12-0 major decision.
Luke Iverson scored on a single leg and had a tough ride with a wing and a half, but couldn’t hang on, eventually losing by pinfall with 22 seconds left in the match.
Carson Klein at 215lbs. scored 2 on a single leg, then got his legs in for a nearfall with a turk, switched to a power half to start the turn, then finished with a half for the pin over Kyson Arndt.
Colby Kesteloot had an excellent match, going the distance against Kyler Lozinski, but losing 3-1 not giving up any bonus points.
On Friday the 5th the FMCC Warriors stayed home in Slayton to take on the Worthington Trojans and Fairmont Martin County west. The Warriors swept the Triangular 51-18 vs. Martin County West, and 53-16 vs. Worthington Faimont forfeited their first two matches to Mason Kirchner and Adam Iverson, so Truman Olsem had the first match against Cooper Kolander, and skunked a half for the pin at 54 seconds.
Brayden Gilb scored on an escape and a take down in the 3rd period but fell to Pierce Rohman 113.
Teague Meyer, with good defense, kept his match against Torrey Paplow to a major decision at 133lbs. Denver Ash was all offense against Seth Siebers, scoring a takedown and 5 nearfall points in the first period at 139lbs. He kept it going into the second period, starting neutral and scoring the takedown and a 2 point nearfall before securing the pin 37 seconds into the second period.
Aiden Lorenzen and Luis Martin at 145lbs. Aiden scored the first points in the match getting a single, switching to a double and getting the takedown. Then caught a cradle for a 3 point nearfall of which Martin was able to escape, but Aiden brought him back to the mat with a deep high single. Starting neutral in the 2nd period, Lorenzen scored on another high single and intentionally cut Martin, only to take him to the mat again with a double leg and secured a nearside cradle for the pin.
At 152lbs. Owen Olsem had Bear Kosbab and wasn’t able to get his offense going. He fell in the third period.
160 brought Quintin Lewis and Ty Kolbe to the mat and “Q” let Kolbe take him down. Then “Q” got his offense going with a quick escape and a takedown and scored a nearfall on a semi guillotine move and won by injury default before the second period started.
Carson Lewis had a blood bath of a match. With Taylor Austin using 3:03 of blood time and Carson using .22 seconds, the match never seemed to get going, as someone would start bleeding after every takedown. The final score of the match was Austin 20 all in takedowns and Lewis 8 all in escapes with 1 penalty point.
“Ivy” scored his first takedown points against Hank Olson out of a scramble, then scored two nearfall points with a Witzel and finished the match with a knuckle roll half for the pin.
Carson Klein scored on a single leg against Ivan Martin at 215lbs. in the first period. Then, again, in the second period and finished with a reverse half for the pin.
Colby Kesteloot at heavyweight, after a handfighting first period, scored his escape, starting from bottom position in the second period and scored two on a takedown. Colby Schwichtenberg scored on a penalty and escape in the third period, finishing the match with Kesteloot in the lead 3-2 for the decision.
The Worthington Trojans sent Kian Ling against Kaston Clarke at 107 and the scoring didn’t start until the third period, where Kaston scored an escape from bottom but Ling came back with a take down. Kaston was undeterred, scoring 3 on another escape and a takedown. After Ling made another escape the match was over with Clarke on top 4-2.
Thomas Pruitt had a heckuva scramble session for a match and came out on top every time to score takedowns and nearfalls and finished the match 6-0.
At 121 Truman “Tru” Olsem scored 8 points in the 1st period to Emmanuel Corondao’s 6 and started on top in the second. Truman broke Corondao down and secured a half and skunked it for the pin 36 seconds into the second period.
127 Brayden Gilb was on the losing end of a tech fall with a lot of scrambling.
Teague Meyer fired back at Worthington with a Tech fall of his own, scoring on a single leg, bringing Jorge Flores to his back for 4. Then a single leg to a headlock for 5. A go behind to a single on the edge of the mat for 2, then finally a single to the back, with a skunked half for five. A final score of 16 to 1 in a dominant performance by Meyer.
Aiden Lorenzen had Dalton Larson at 139 and scored on two single legs in the first period allowing an escape and a penalty point. Lorenzen allowed an escape point by Larson in the second period. Then in the third period Lorenzen, after allowing an escape, got to a single leg, finished with a double, got the half and skunked it for the pin.
After a forfeit to Denver Ash at 145. Owen Olsem at 152 scored 2 out of the initial scramble and got Sage Easterday in a knuckleroll half for the pin at 41 seconds.
After a forfeit to Quintin Lewis, his cousin Carson Lewis at 172, waited till the second period to earn an escape starting from bottom, scored a takedown and finished with a pin.
Luke Iverson at 189 earned an escape in between two takedowns and weaseled out from bottom catching a nearside cradle for the pin.
Vincent Bray making his varsity debut, took on Tony Hernandez and went 1 minute, losing by pinfall.
Colby Kesteloot went the distance with an aggressive Eh-Day Htoo, scoring 12 points with underhooks single legs and reversals after suffering an early 5 point nearfall, still winning the match 127.
Next, the Warriors host a triangular against Springfield and Adrian, then travel to Colton SD for a tournament.
