APRIL IS VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION MONTH

The definition of volunteer is the act of an individual to freely give of time and or labor for community service. Volunteers may be trained in areas of work needed by a cause or company.

Why do Volunteers do this? There are many reasons. They may want to give back to an organization. They may feel the need to give back to their community or to the organization.

Who may begin to volunteer? Volunteers can be of any age. We teach our children to volunteer by helping a neighbor or friend with a task without expecting to be paid. Employed people may volunteer by carving out some time in their day to teach church school groups, or coach a soccer team. People who volunteer have received rewards through improved mental health and confidence, self-esteem, or life satisfactions.

Volunteering can be done at several places in the surrounding areas. Volunteers are used at churches, schools, and community organizations. The Hospice of Murray County is another good place to volunteer. They volunteer by donating time to be on the Board of Directors, helping with fundraisers, office work, and one very special way is to spending time with a Hospice patient.

Hospice of Murray County has Over 160 volunteers that help annually of those, about 50 volunteers at least once every month. And for this we are very blessed by their abilities to give back.

Thank you to all Volunteers who volunteer their time.
