The Slayton area is home to a new counseling clinic, with four therapists prepared to serve the emotional and mental health needs of our community in two convenient locations. Adler Counseling, PLLC was founded by Jeremy Adler in June of 2021. Mr. Adler said, “I worked at a community mental health agency for ten years with a goal to get into private practice. I liked the management and supervision work and I wanted to have other good counselors work with me.” “My wife really helped encourage me to get things going, she has been instrumental in the entire process.” Jeremy opened an office in Slayton last June and in July, Ashley Whipkey joined the practice. In August they welcomed Sophie Lingen and in September the team opened an additional office in Pipestone. This month, Tiffany Bose will join the practice as well. All four counselors are trained in general mental health practice and trauma, but each have their own area of expertise.

Jeremy Adler, MS, LPCC, RPT-S is a registered play therapist with additional training for supervision. “Play therapy is applying the therapeutic powers of play in a systematic way to help kids heal, grow and achieve their goals,” he explained. “I also specialize in couples/marriage therapy and working with kids and adults who have experienced traumatic events.”

Ashley Whipkey, MSW, LIC-SW, also works with children and adults who are experiencing trauma and has additional experience treating older adults and anyone working through grief. Sophie Lingen, MS, is a Mental Health Practitioner who specializes in family therapy and parenting. She is also working with children in several school districts and in home family therapy. Tiffany Bose is also a Mental Health Practitioner with additional training in perinatal and prenatal counseling relating to infertility, pre and postpartum disorders (PMAD) and motherhood. Additionally, Tiffany works with couples and uses the practices of Christian Counseling if requested.

Mr. Adler grew up in rural Wabasha in eastern Minnesota and earned his bachelor’s and graduate degrees from South Dakota State University in Brookings. He said, “I met my wife while at SDSU and we have lived in southeast MN for the last ten years.” He added that he, Ashley, Sophie, and Tiffany all choose to live in the area and they understand the value of helping children, adults and families in our community. “We’ve seen an increase in anxiety and depression across all ages and believe everyone can benefit from counseling at some point in their life.”

Adler Counseling has an office in the Maple Path building at 2500 Maple Avenue in Slayton and another office at 717 East Main St. in Pipestone.
