On Thursday February 10th our mighty Warriors stayed home in Fulda to take on the Dawson/Boyd/ La-qui-parle/Motevideo United and the Windom Cobras. The Warriors didn’t fair so well in either dual but did experience some success. The United wrestling team would be first on the docket and this team is composed of some powerhouse football schools probably because of their excellent wrestling program as these kids are always physical on the football field.
The first three weights gave up falls before the third period giving the United a big early lead 18-0 and a technical fall at 126 increased the deficit 23-0. Denver Ash stepped on the mat with solid confidence and tried an underhook for a throw but lost his grip and ended up underneath giving up 2. After a quick escape tried it again with the same results giving up four points on take downs and earning one escape in the first period. Going into the second period Denver starting in bottom position sat out turned his hips and circled behind Moravetz and earned a reversal for two. Moravetz was too much to hold down as the two got into a scramble and Moravetz earned his escape. With a score of 3-5 going into the 3rd period Ash would start on top and try to get a turn but in the chaos of the scramble again he gave up another escape to Moravetz and a bloody nose extending the time of the match. Starting neutral Ash couldn’t get to the legs and eventually gave up the decision but not without an excellent fight.26-0 United
Owen Olsem wrestling at 138 put on another impressive showing against Tyler Schickedanz of United. Olsem out of the gate gave up a little to much space and allowed a take down. Owen the more technical wrestler in this match turned his hips and earned a reversal tying the score. Schickedanz was able to catch a leg of Owen and pulling it in he captured Owens head and tied up a cradle. Holding Olsem for a nearfall in a cradle the fire built and Olsem broke the hands and got on top earning another reversal but this time Olsem held Schickedanz in a reverse cradle and going for the fall ran out of time. Schickedanz chose the bottom position for the third period and that is where he would stay as Olsem got him flat and fought for the armbar. Olsem would eventually get the armbar and turned Schickedanz half way before losing his grip the then put in a reverse half and held on for the pin putting the Warriors on the board with 6.
Aiden Lorenzen walked on the mat with tenacity and wasted no time taking Mason Pederson to the mat with an excellent single leg and held on to the single and started head hunting capturing Pederson’s head driving forward locking his hands for the nearside cradle put Pederson on his back. As the referee was counting out the nearfall Lorenzen stepped through putting his leg between Pederson’s and securing the fall. 26-12 United
Carter Benda took on Avery Wittnebel and with a failed headlock attempt ended up underneath giving up a takedown in the first period. The second period Wittnebel started on bottom and earned an escape and after a few takedown attempts by Benda, Wittnebel found a way and earned another takedown. The third period started with Benda on the bottom and Wittnebel turned him for a three point nearfall, but Benda was able to break the hold and escape earning 1 and then showing his heart and athleticism scored a takedown and rode out the period holding Wittnebel to a decision. 12-35 United
Carson Klein at 170 gave up a fall to Holt Larson and Christian Kuball quickly at 182 earned the team points back with a pin of his own with a half and and armbar. 48-18 United
Ryder Henning started some fireworks at 195 with a beautiful single leg as he brought Landon Olson to the mat and kept him on his back in a honeymooner for an exciting 5 point combination. Landon Olson earned an escape before the period ran out and with a score of 5-1 going into the second Ryder started on top Olson had good defense fighting the turn attempts and Henning rode him out for 2 minutes. The third period found the wrestlers starting in the neutral position and Henning put 2 more on the board with a duck under takedown and working the edge of the mat for the turn went out of bounds. Henning finished on top and got his hand raised for the decision of 7-1. 41- 21 United
Keaton Haas pinned Rylan Klein in 55 seconds to get United to break 50 team points and the Warriors lose 58-21.
Nick Kulseth and his Windom/ Mountain Lake Cobras stepped to the mat next and the Warriors sent Teague Meyer to the mat 1st against Preston Xayachak. Meyer gave up a take down and two nearfalls on tilts in the first period giving Xayachak a commanding lead going into the 2nd period where Meyer starting on top held Xayachak in a nearfall for two and rode him out for the whole period. Starting the third period in the neutral position Meyer got the first takedown only to give up a reversal, and working his defense only gave up a decision to the Cobras.
Lucas Kuball in the period of the technician took Jared hunter to the mat with and secured a cradle for a nearfall, but lost his grip and Hunter earned a reversal and the two started the second period with Kuball in the lead 5-2. Hunter starting on bottom and earned a reversal and 5 points on nearfalls only for Kuball to not lose stamina earning his escape and starting the 3rd period 9-6 Hunter out of the neutral position had a plan and executed it taking Kuball to the mat and securing a pin for the Cobras and making the score 9-3.
Noah Mathiowetz, and Quinten Lewis both took falls and Denver Ash lost technical fall and the Cobras had a commanding lead going into the 138 bout and Aiden Lorenzen worked for three periods with his excellent single leg, hi crotch, ll and blast doubles cutting Noah Holmberg in between takedowns racking up ten points before Holberg found an angle and scored his own takedown only to add to the fire Lorenzen was building in his heart against him. Going into the third period starting in bottom position Lorenzen made a quick escape and turned right around and scored another takedown breaking Holmberg even more. After cutting Holmberg for the 5th time Lorenzen decided to try for the turn and with 45 seconds left scored the 6 for the Warriors. 26-6 Cobras
Owen Olsem brought his excellent defensive skills to the table but couldn’t hang on giving up the pin to Caden Swoboda with 8 seconds left in the second period.
Carter Benda at 152 is showing an increase in his technical skills scoring the first takedown in the 1st period letting Eagan Maras up for an escape. Maras starting down in the 2nd earned his escape and neither wrestler found a way to score out of the tie for the remainder of the period. The third period Benda showing heart quickly earned his escape point making the score 3-2. Benda working his defense waited until 45 seconds left in the match to take an excellent shot scoring 2 and riding out Maras scoring the decision. 32-9 Cobras
After Devin Landsman fell to Montgomery Bjorkland at 160 Carson Klein came out of the gate firing on all eight cylinders and made an impressive single leg putting Mathew Ekstrom to the mat where Carson worked a tilt and a cradle scoring two three point nearfall making the score 8-0 going into the second where a broken Ekstrom fell to Kleins cradle 45 seconds in. 15-38
Colby Kesteloot and Christian Kuball both received forfeits at 182 and 195 and Micah Holmberg of the Cobras took a forfeit at 220. Rylan Klein after making an impressive shot and scoring two gave up a reversal and a pin at 285 making the final score 27-50 Cobras
The Warriors Travelled to Granite falls for a Quad on Friday against the Quad County Cobras, the Canby Lancers, and the ACGC Falcons. The first dual of the night came from the Quad county Cobras where the Warriors would take the dual 42-35 scoring their 9 dual win of the season.
Teague Meyer at 106 scored a takedown in the first and second periods and going into the 3rd period couldn’t hang on as Griffin Howard worked a crossface cradle for the fall with one minute left in the match putting the Cobra’s on the board first with 6.
Lucas Kuball at 113 after a take down got a deep half without a knuckleroll and held Gage Wilke for a stick tying the dual score 6-6.
Torrin Clark was pinned and Noah Mathiowetz took a forfeit keeping the score tied going into the 132 bout where Denver Ash took on Gage Corner and secured the first takedown. After Corner earned an escape he tried a headlock which as defended and got the half on the way to the mat getting the takedown then turned Corner for the 6.
Aiden Lorenzen took on Bryan Rhode at 138 and after breaking Rhode with 3 takedown and 2 cuts held Rhode on his back in a leg lock out of a scramble. Wrestling with instinct Lorenzen turned on Rhode and held him for another 2 point nearfall. Starting the 2nd period with a commanding 11-2 lead out of the neutral position Lorenzen got the takedown again, but this time secured a nearside cradle scoring another 6 for the Warriors. 24-12 Warriors
Owen Olsem Wrestled hard through two periods giving up two takedowns and a nearfall. The third period Olsem wrestled tough for another 1:58 seconds and giving it his all couldn’t keep his shoulder off the mat giving 6 to the Cobras. 24-18 Warriors
Jaxon Wendorff received a forfeit at 152 and Carter Benda wrestled up at 160 to try and held score more team points to take the dual. Neither wrestler found an angle in the 1st period and starting the 2nd period on the bottom Benda won the scramble and took an escape point. Benda then tried a headlock which Nolan Hildahl defended then came around a tried an underhook for a throw and Hildahl defended it again, but this time scored when Benda got out of position. With a tie score going into the third period Benda would have his work cut out for him. Benda lost the ride as Hildahl found an escape and Benda couldn’t get through the defense to score giving the decision to Hildahl. 30-21 Warriors
Carson Klein went through three periods of Hunter Ridlers’ scoring before finally losing by technical fall early in the third period.
Eighth grader Colby Kesteloot lost the first period to junior Jason Jansen 6-1 as Jansen has more technical experience, but Colby worked his defense slowly wearing Jansen down and after trying to turn Colby through the second period Jansen lost his momentum. Colby with a freight train for a heart started the third period on top and broke Jansen with two takedowns and two cuts of his own. On the last takedown Colby held Jansen’s shoulders to the mat with a reverse half securing the pin and the dual win for the Warriors.
After a forfeit to Christian Kuball at 195 Ryder Henning lost by fall at 220 to Jacob Savig. Then Rylan Klein Wrestling up at heavyweight outscored Evan Friese 5-0 in the first period with a solid takedown and a nearfall. The second period went to Friese as he started on the bottom and earned a reversal and a two point nearfall of his own. Starting the second period with a narrow lead Rylan Klein started in the neutral position and Friese found an angle first and scored a takedown winning the match 6-5.
Warriors win 42-35
Next up were the Canby Lancers and starting with Teague Meyer who gave a solid 6 minutes of wrestling never giving up scoring a nearfall in the top position in the second period on a Witzel then a technical violation and an escape in the third against Eli Greenman. Greenman scored 13 points on two takedowns, one nearfall and two reversals giving the Lancers the first points with a major decision. 4-0 Lancers
Torrin Clark too went 6 minutes with Isaac Guzman at 113 giving up only a decision. 8-0 Lancers
Lucas Kuball as usual scoring that 1st takedown on a go behind defending the cradle and getting an early lead couldn’t hang on as Clayton Drietz scored a reversal and rode out the first period. Kuball starting top in the second period gave up a reversal and a nearfall making the score 7-2 going into the third period. Starting in the neutral position Lucas needed something big and secured an underhook for a throw and didn’t follow through allowing Drietz to score the takedown and held Lucas for the pin. 14-0 Lancers
Noah Mathiowetz wrestled tenth grader Broydrck Gravdal and after giving up an early takedown worked out to an escape and scored two on a very nice outside single leg. Gravdal was able to reverse out of the takedown and put Mathiowetz on his back for a nearfall. Going into the 2nd period Mathiowetz starting in the neutral position. Noah was first to score with a takedown and a nearfall getting the lead 8-7. Gravdal got a reversal and Mathiowetz never quit fighting and stayed in good position and finished the match giving up a decision 9-12. 17-0 Lancers
Denver Ash after giving up the first takedown traded reversals with Sam Drietz. The second period after giving up an escape scored on a blast double leg and got a double chicken wing for a 3 point nearfall right at the end of the period. Ash had the lead at the end of the third period against Sam Drietz and all he had to do was stay away from Drietz, but Drietz caught a ankle pick and scored a last second takedown to win the match.
Aiden Lorenzen Scored on a textbook single leg against the Lancers Nathan Cole and rode out the first period looking for a turn. The second period Lorenzen took no prisoners scoring 6 takedowns adding to his lead making the score 14-5. After the last takedown Cole suffered an injury and gave 6 to Lorenzen putting the Warriors on the board with 6. 26-6 Lancers
After giving up a forfeit at 152 to Lincoln Fink Carter Benda wrestled up in a better match against Sawyer Verhelst an went right to work. Benda was scoring everywhere through all three periods finishing the match 15-5 and a major decision. As Dan Gable Said “ I shoot I score, He shoots I score.” Pretty much sums up this match for Benda. 10-32 Lancers
Carson Klein went the distance losing by techfall to Nich Wagner.
After Colby Kesteloot took a forfeit Christian Kuball wrestling up at 195 took on Parker Verhelst and dominated the first period. Starting the second period Kuball made his escape point with ease then went in on a bad shot and Verhelst knowing the only way to beat Kuball was with something big found a headlock and put Kuball on his back. Kuball taking the defeat with pride left the mat humbly. 16-43 Warriors
Ryder Henning took a forfeit at 220 then Rylan Klein wrestling up at 285 held Gavin Noyes scoreless in the first period. The second period Noyes started the scoring with an escape and a takedown starting in bottom referees position. Rylan Klein fought it off and made his own escape ending the period 3-1 Noyes. Klein earned and escape in the third period but would eventually fall to Noyes in a pinning combination finishing the dual 22- 49 Lancers.
ACGC would be the last dual of the night and Teague Meyer put the Warriors on the board first with a decision against 9th grader Brandon Kragenbring.
Lucas Kuball at 113 got a single leg and drove into Rowan Molinaro and secured a cradle and the pin putting the Warriors up 9-0.

Noah Mathiowetz took a forfeit. Quinten Lewis performed well on a nice go behind scoring the first take down but Brody Strauman would earn the reversal and tie up the match going into the second period where Lewis started on the bottom and finished on the bottom losing by pinfall. 15-12 Falcons
The next 6 matches were all down hill as the Warriors would take pins in the first period except for Aiden Lorenzen who fell 41 seconds into the second.
Christian Kuball Wrestling Takoda Mucciaccaro got the pin at 58 seconds narrowing the deficit by 6
