Dick Davidson led the Slayton/ MCC Track teams for 34 years. During his tenure, he guided 31 individual events and 25 relay teams that placed in the top 9 at the state meet. His teams placed at the MSHSL State top ten 7 times (5 boys, 2 girls) winning boys state in 1978 and in the State True Team meet 15 times (11 boys, 4 girls) winning boys state in 1988, 1989 and 1997. He is a member of the Minnesota Cross Country Hall of Fame, Minnesota Track Hall of Fame and Murray County Central Hall of Fame. Currently, Coach Davidson officiates high school meets and would do that to the one that bears his name.
The Rebel girls showed great team balance scoring well in all three phases of track; sprints, distance and field events. In the sprints, seniors Ryanna Schreier, Brailyn Breberg and Chelby Keseloot led the way. In the 100 meter dash Ryanna placed 3rd while Brailyn was 5th and Chelby was 8th. In the 200, Ryanna placed 2nd and Brailyn was 4th. Quinti Parra-Mendez, running the 300 hurdles for the first time, placed 5th.
Distance runners sisters Amanda and Ashley Overguaaw continue to show they are some of the top runners in the state. Ashley won the 800 and 1600 events while Amanda won the 400 and 3200. Fellow distance runners Lily Daniels (1600-5th), Megan Bakke (800- 4th) and Sophia Nelson (1600- 4th) provided quality points for the team. Eighth grader Allie Paulzine has come on strong this mid season, improving her race times. She placed 7th in the 800 and 8th in the 400. The 4x800 relay team of Sophia Nelson, Megan Bakke, Lily Daniels, and Bryleir Schreier placed first.
In the field events, Cassidy Johnson placed 3rd in the discus, Lindsey Hause was runner up in the high jump and Carlye Larson was 3rd in the pole vault.
Ryan Risacher continues to make a big impact on the boy’s side. He placed 5th in the 100 meter dash, 4th in the 110 hurdles and was 2nd in the 300 hurdles. Fellow hurdlers Ashton Kalas and Ben Ahlers also placed well with Ashton placing 3rd in 110 and 5th in the 300 while Ben was 5th in the 110 and 7th in the 300.
Rylan Engelkes ran a personal best time in the 800 to place 4th. Two mile runners Wyatt Biren, Alex Betz and Wesley Hause placed 5th, 6th and 7th for the Rebels. Throwers Thomas Huso (Shot put-5th) and Dylan Doeden (discus-7th) placed in the respective events while pole vaulter Carson Engelkes and Caleb Rosenbrook were 4th and 6th.
