The Murray County Central Rebels opened a busy week of softball at home against the Red Rock Central Westbrook Walnut Grove. The Rebels will play six games in five days with key conference games to begin the week with RRC/WWG and Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The Rebels would struggle to put the ball in play and RRC/ WWG would get a big conference win.
Hailey Amsden has been a thorn in the Rebels’ side over the last two seasons and the centerfielder would get on base to start the game on a single and an error by the Rebels moved her over to third base to start the game. She would score on a passed ball and the Rebels fell behind 1-0. The Charging Falcons would score another run in the second inning after a hit by a pitch and an errant throw by the Rebels after a ground out to third base. RRC/WWG would blow the game open in the fifth inning when the visitors would score six runs, three of which came with two outs.
The Rebels didn’t pick up their first hit until the bottom of the fourth inning when Sophie Larson singled. The Rebels wouldn’t score until the fifth inning when Abby Loosbrock drove in a run with a double and would then score on a single by Thea Schneider. MCC would add a run in the 6th inning when Zoey Iverson would single and Morgan Winter would double. The Rebels only managed 3 runs after scoring 18 runs against RRC/WWG the first time they played this season.
Mary Lou McNab led the Rebels with a pair of hits. Abby Loosbrock and Morgan Winter had doubles and RBIs in the game. Thea Schneider had a hit and RBI. Thea Schneider took the loss for the Rebels striking out five. Addison Jenniges picked up the win for RRC/ WWG going the distance and striking out five. The big difference in the game was the sixrun fifth inning for RRC/WWG. The Rebels would be on the road Thursday in Mountain Lake.
