The MCC Rebels wrapped up their regular season on Monday night in Westbrook. The Rebels lost to the Chargers earlier this season but we’re hoping for another strong performance to give themselves a winning streak entering the playoffs on Thursday. The Rebels would never give up in this game but a long stretch of no offense would cost them the game. While the Chargers would end their fivegame losing streak.
The Rebels would start this game much as they played against Adrian Ellsworth last week. Quick passes into the low post that the Rebels would turn into points. MCC got off to a great start jumping out to a 9-8 lead. The Rebels would foul Ameilia Sikel on a threepoint shot and she would go to the free-throw line and make two out of the three free throws from that point on the Chargers would outscore the Rebels 26-0. The Chargers were led by Addeson Jenniges who would make six first-half threepoint shots for 18 points. Isabel Klumper would score 10 firsthalf points as the Chargers claimed control of the game. The Chargers would lead at the half 36 to 9.
The Chargers would score the first two points of the half to make it an even 30-0 run which did end when Abby Overman would connect on a three-point shot. The Rebels would start to get the ball into the paint led by Mary Lou McNab who would drive into the paint and get open for shots inside of ten feet. McNab would score ten second-half points. Jenniges would make two more threepoint shots to finish with 8 makes for 24 points. With about eight minutes to play the Rebels were down nearly 30 points when they started to chip away at the lead. Rohrer and Swenson would score down low and Abby Overman would hit another three-point shot. MCC would get within ten points with two minutes to play but would not get any closer. The Rebels outscored the Chargers in the second half 31 to 16 in the second half. The Chargers would win 52 to 40.
The Rebels turned the ball over 19 times in the game while the Chargers turned it over just 11 times. McNab led the Rebels 10 points while Emily Rohrer added 9, Abby Overman 8, and Seanna Swenson chipped in with 6. Addeson Jenniges scored 24 points, Sikel added 11, and Klumper finished with 10. The Rebels will now prepare for their pigtail game Thursday against Adrian Ellsworth.
