A Celebration of Life Service for Sharon Snelling, age 84, of Windom, will be held at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 am, with a time of visitation for two hours prior to the service from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.
Sharon Lee (Murphey) Snelling was born on January 27, 1942, at Mountain Lake Hospital in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to Donald and Marjorie (Gropper) Murphey. Sharon was baptized and confirmed at the Jeffers Methodist Church.
She graduated from Jeffers High School in Jeffers, Minnesota and attended college at the University of Minnesota. She worked at Windom Area Schools as the Director of the School Lunch Program for 26 years and was a part of the MSFSA while working.
On January 8, 1966, Sharon married Darris Snelling at the Jeffers Methodist Church. They had two kids, Jeff and Julie. They lived together in Slayton, Minnesota for 11 years, before moving to Windom. She was a member of Eastern Star in Slayton and Windom, before the branches folded, and was an advisor for Dollars for Scholars.
Sharon enjoyed her time in the garden and in the kitchen, growing her own food and sharing it with her friends and family. She loved baking homemade bread and making cookies, especially for her grandson, Richie.
Sharon passed away on May 13, 2026, at Accura HealthCare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, with her family by her side.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Darris Snelling of Windom; her two children, Jeff Snelling of Edina, and Julie Donchez of Windom; two grandchildren, Kaylan Donchez and Richie Donchez; her sister, Joyce Burns; sister-in-law, Barb Hammond; brothers-in-law, David Olson and Mark Schmitz; nephews and their families, Dan Olson, Jody Hammond, and Tony Schmitz; niece, Terri Green and her family; as well as Martin Woelz, a foreign-exchange student they hosted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marjorie Murphey; parents-inlaw, Walter and Ora Snelling; her sisters, Donna Olson and Kim Schmitz; brother-in-law, Donald Hammond; nephews, Dean Olson and Tim Boston; and her beloved dog, Cole.
