Kathryn Rachel Crews was born on October 31, 1936, to Fred and Mabel Schumm in Graham Lakes Township near Kinbrae, MN. Kathryn grew up on the family farm, attended local country school, and graduated from Fulda High School. After graduation, Kathryn married Joseph Meyers, and they later divorced. Kathryn married Mel Morrison in 1978, then moved to Sylvan Shores, Browerville, MN in 1980. After Mel passed away Kathryn moved to Staples. Because of her declining health, Kathryn’s family moved her to Havenwood of Buffalo in 2024. Havenwood provided her with the care she needed, and she was closer to her family.

Kathryn’s fondest memories of growing up near Kinbrae were the outdoor movies shown on the brick buildings and getting into a good deal of mischief with her siblings on the farm. She will always treasure her beloved dog, Daisy. Throughout her life she was a dedicated quilter, had many wonderful friends, was a member of the Staples United Methodist Church, Staples Senior Citizen group, Quilt Clubs and more. Kathyrn loved her time at Havenwood. She made many new friends and was active in their many social activities.

Kathryn passed away peacefully in her home on January 11, 2026, surrounded by her family. Her family will hold a celebration of life in June 2026 in Fulda, MN. Kathryn will be laid to rest with her parents and younger brother in the Summit Lake Cemetery, Reading, MN.

Kathryn is survived by her three children: David (Cathy) Meyers of St. Cloud, MN, Pat (Wendell) King of St. Bonifacius, MN, and Jim (Cheryl) Meyers of Eau Claire, WI, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers. Kathyrn was preceded in death by her daughter Diane VanderVeen, one grandchild, one great grandchild, her parents, and two brothers.

Her family, friends, and all who knew her will miss Kathryn. She was a kind and wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. Rest in peace, mom.

Kathryn requested donations in her honor be made to your local food bank or pet rescue.
