MURRAY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on September 7, in a regularly scheduled meeting. There were no conflicts of interest indicated. Minutes of both the August 24 and 31 meetings were approved. There was no one for Open Forum.

St. Columba Celebrates 130 years

One hundred and thirty years! It’s hard to imagine that far back in time, one has to search archives, old newspapers and books and talk to a generation that kept written memories and if you are lucky, old photographs. In the small community of Iona, Minnesota, the search for old memories and older newspaper clippings has been taking place since March. Why now? St. Columba Catholic Church is celebrating 130 years as a parish this year, 2021; really as a parish family.

INTEREST STATEMENTS FOR REHABILITATION PROGRAM

The City of Slayton is interested in pursuing funding to ASSIST homeowners, rental property owners and commercial property owners (along Broadway Avenue) with health and safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, and lead based paint repairs. Property owners should have received information on the program and an interest statement in the mail this past week. Property owners that are interested in the program should return their interest statement by September 15th if possible. Development Services will be assisting the City in the grant application process. FALLING IS NOT A NORMAL PART OF AGING

Falls Prevention Awareness Day is September 22, 2021. The first day of autumn is the designated time of year when National, state, and local partners collaborate to educate others about the impact of falls, share fall prevention strategies, and advocate for the expansion of evidence-based community fall prevention programs. Fall prevention is an investment in independence and supports quality of life as one ages.

NAPS (SECOND HARVEST)

SLAYTON: Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) in the Slayton area, sponsored by Second Harvest Heartland distribution will be held at the office of A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota – Murray County at 2989 Maple Rd., Slayton MN. Distribution will take place on Thursday, September 9th, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm.
