Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) in the Slayton area, sponsored by Second Harvest Heartland distribution will be held at the office of A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota – Murray County at 2989 Maple Rd., Slayton MN. Distribution will take place on Thursday, July 14th, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. Remember if you cannot be there, please have your proxy pick your items up for you. The Slayton Community Band will be performing a concert of OUR FAVORITES at Gullord Park on Thursday, July 14 at 7:00 P.M. If there is a particular piece that you heard this summer that you want to hear again, let any band member or director know by July 12. The young people’s march around the park for this concert will be to “The Trombone King”. Our favorite pieces we have done throughout the summer will be included along with a new one called “Cantabile” (which in Italian means in a singing style/manner). We hope to see at our last concert in July!

Apply fertilizer to peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers when they start to produce fruit. This is the time to replace seasonal plants that have failed or are diseased.

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met on July 5, the first meeting of the month. Meetings are regularly scheduled for the first, third and fourth Tuesday each month. Commissioner Molly Malone currently serves as Chairperson. Dave Thiner, Dennis Welgraven, Jim Kluis and Lori Gunnink make up the remainder of the board.

The Murray County Medical Center Board of Directors met on June 29th in the regular session. Financial reports showed a net income of $258,000 for the month of May with an year to date total of $393,000. Due to ongoing updates to the EPIC system other reports presented at these meetings were not available.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa—Ashley Hellewell* and Hannah Van Iperen, students at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, earned a spot on the Academic Dean’s List for the spring 2022 semester. The Dean’s List is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours.
