United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) is excited to announce that Hans Zahrbock will chair this year’s annual campaign. Zahrbock has been a long time resident of Marshall, MN and is Vice President/ Business Relationship Manager for Western Equipment Finance here in Marshall. This year’s campaign theme is Live United to the Power of 5. “Living United to the Power of 5” is meant to show us how every effort can go so much further when we work together. So, if each of us takes the time to donate $5, tell 5 friends, give 5 hours, invite 5 people to join in the campaign and then add 5 more, the result will be exponential growth. Our goal is to be able to continue to support the various programs that will help our communities grow and become stronger. By working together we can cause a ripple effect that will lead to substantial impact for every person in every community we serve, every day of the year, shared Zahrbock. Zahrbock has resided in Marshall since 1994 with his wife, Shana and two children, Sadie Schaefer and husband Nolan Schaefer, son Simon and fiancée Morgan Kommer.

September is ending this week-end. And then October with its shortening days and cooler temperatures.

The Skunk Scraper Upper As I made my way to the big city forty miles up the road, not much was on today’s agenda. The fewer stops the better is a good stage in life and so much the better if lollygagging along the way can be used as a relaxation technique. Twas early morn as I was cruising along on cruise. The sun was upon the horizon reflective of the mood within.

The Rebel volleyball team was back in action as they traveled to coach Katie Furth’s home turf in Lamberton to take on the Red Rock Central Falcons. Coming off a loss in five contentious sets against Adrian/ Ellsworth, MCC started off game one a little rocky but found confidence after an all too familiar time out early in the set.

Coming off a rewarding victory over the Falcons, MCC was slapped back to reality at the hands of the Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Coyotes. Behind the strong serving of Lili Nielsen and Sam Uniedt, the Coyotes ran up a score of 14-4 over the Rebels before MCC went on a small run getting to point number nine on a 4 point run behind server Morgan Winter and a few Coyote hitting errors.

The MCC Rebels were on the road Friday night to take on the Saints of Saint James. It was the first time ever the Rebels played the Saints in St. James. The Saints entered the game riding a 30 game losing streak dating back to October 5th 2018 when the Saints beat Windom.

Men and women of all ages are needed to officiate at the high school level. If you love sports, have a “feel” for the game, and a basic grasp of the rules you can be an official. Officials are a valuable part of high school athletics – you are needed and MSHSL member schools value your services!
