Seven Minnesota 4-H youth were selected as delegates for this annual conference. On April 14-19, more than 200 youth from across the United States and U.S.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that producers in counties affected by eligible disaster events in Kentucky, Minnesota, South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, and Tennessee can apply for costshare assistance through the Emergency Grain Storage Facility Assistance Program (EGSFP). The new program provides cost-share assistance for the construction of new grain storage capacity and drying and handling needs, in order to support the orderly marketing of commodities. An initial allocation of $20 million in cost-share assistance is available to agricultural producers in affected counties impacted by the damage to or destruction of large commercial grain elevators as a result of natural disasters from Dec. 1, 2021, to Aug. 1, 2022. The application period is open and closes Dec. 29, 2023.

Livestock inventory records are necessary in the event of a natural disaster, so remember to keep them updated. When disasters strike, the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) can help you if you’ve suffered excessive livestock death losses and grazing or feed losses due to eligible natural disasters.

United Community Action Partnership, Inc. on behalf of Jackson, Redwood, Cottonwood, Lincoln, Murray, Rock, Pipestone and Nobles Counties is anticipating Federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program Phase 40 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area.

The Murray County Historical Society is excited to welcome William ‘Bill’ Wassenaar as our newest staff member. Bill is a native of Hills, MN but has lived in Slayton for many years and has been a volunteer since the summer 2022. His main duty will be document filing for the museum’s obituary index, which has surpassed over 32,500 entries. Since starting this project in 2017, the obituary index has become a valuable asset to the society’s research library. Bill’s employment is funded by the Senior Community Service Employment Program through the Southwestern Minnesota Opportunity Council. The program provides work-based job training for older Americans. We are excited to have Bill at the Museum. Please stop by the museum to pay him a visit.
