The Chandler American Legion & auxiliary met on Tuesday afternoon May 16 with President Patsy Buys presiding. Jeri Sankey gave the opening devotions. A moment of silence was held in remembering our departed members and our Veterans. The group recited the Pledge of Allegiance and also sang the National Anthem. The auxiliary recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. After roll call and the reading of the minutes, Mavis Kruisselbrink gave the Treas. report.

Friday - Hadley vs. Springfield Hadley travelled northeast to take on perennial state tourney qualifier and 2-time State Champions, the Springfield Tigers, in the Buttermakers first ever appearance at Springfield Riverside Park.

By Kathy Schwartz, Murray County Master Gardener Now is the time to divide perennials. Choose a cloudy, overcast day. This will stimulate new growth and encourage more vigorous blooming. If your plant develops a “bald spot” at the center or if the stems fall over, it is time to divide. Water the soil the day before you dig. Divide when the plant is not flowering so it can focus all of its energy on the new roots and leaf tissue. This is an inexpensive way to increase the number of your plants. Divide iris and peonies in August.

Twenty three track and field teams from across southwest Minnesota embarked to Montevideo for the Section 3A Track and Field Championships. The top two finishers in each event would automatically qualify for the state meet as anyone that performed at a state standard for that event. The Rebel girls had sixteen entries in the meet while the boys had six.

Girls Team Takes 2nd Place: Ava Johnson, Rachael Huso, Symone Harms, Elie Meyer, Lizzie Daniels and Lauren Larson. Day two of the 3A Section Golf Tournament took place this past Wednesday.

Anyone associated with track and field in southwest Minnesota undoubtedly knows who identical twin sisters, Amanda and Ashley Overgaauw are, as the Murray County Central athletes have been forces to be reckoned with for quite a few years.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, but what a ride it was watching this year’s Rebels baseball team play ball. A tough 5-4 loss would end their season on Tuesday night against RTR, but as always with this team, they were never out of the game and led at two different times. MCC got out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Derek Kluis hit a triple to the right center field gap and Christian Tentinger drove him in on a fielder’s choice ground out.

The #2 seed, Central Minnesota Christian, from the North half of the bracket, played the Murray County Central Rebels, the #2 seed in the South half of Section 3A in the baseball playoffs on Thursday night for the chance to advance to the Final Four. TMB defeated Lakeview in the game before the Rebels, with the winner of MCC vs. CMC taking on the Panthers, Saturday.
