Question: Hello, I thought I read somewhere that rest areas help reduce crashes. I saw a trooper at a rest area the other day, and it got me thinking about that.

Would you like to learn how to graft your own apple trees? Maybe you have tried your hand at tree grafting before but did not have success, or perhaps you have a favorite type of apple you would like to have in your own yard or a variety you would like to duplicate. Whatever your reason for wanting to graft trees, instructor Keith Esselink of Leota, Minnesota will be sure to answer any questions you may have at the upcoming hands-on tree grafting workshops to be held in Pipestone on Monday, April 8, 2024. Keith has extensive experience and success grafting apple trees in his own orchard as well as for other people, and is willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others in this hands-on workshop.

Area farm couples are invited to spend a day off the farm together attending the Farm Couples Retreat Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Evergreen Lane Events near Redwood Falls. The event is hosted by Southwest Initiative Foundation.

The following area students have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year, ending December 2023. Qualification for the Dean’s List is limited to students who have attained outstanding academic achievement.

Currie State Bank is bringing financial literacy education to over 1,640 students in Minnesota. Students at 5 schools have free access to Banzai, an award-winning online program and content library that allows users to practice real-world finance from the safety of their home or classroom using any internet-enabled device. Murray County Central and Fulda High School have both been chosen to partake in this. At a time when a solid foundation of practical financial knowledge is critical, these resources will make a huge impact on users. All of these resources are available to students at home or in the classroom via any device that can access the internet.

Each semester, UMR recognizes students who have achieved high academic achievement through the Chancellor’s List. To be listed, a student must have earned a 3.666 GPA or higher and completed a minimum of 12 credits graded A-F. The following students from your community were named to the Chancellor’s List.
