The Slayton City Council met in regular session on Nov. 4, 2024. With all members present except Blake Heronimus, the council approved the agenda with additions, as well as the minutes from the last meeting and the claims and cash balance reports. Under Notices and Communications, all were reminded that Tuesday, Nov. 5th is Election Day and the council will have the City Canvassing Board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 7:30am at City Hall. City Administrator Josh Malchow will be attending the Coalition Fall Conference Thursday and Friday in Alexandria, MN. Councilman Heronimus and Malchow will be going to Minneapolis on Nov. 12 to meet with Fredericks and Byron offices to talk face to face in regard to the Electric Utility response.

What do you think is the major focus of the Slayton Kiwanis Club? If you thought it has to do with our children, you guessed right. In fact, our kids benefit from Kiwanis support from many different directions: our yearly ($1,000) graduate scholarships, from the Murray County Early Childhood Initiative, and the Murray County Christmas Project. Also, the 4th & 5th graders learn leadership skills, self development and character building from attending K-Kids, which is coordinated with the Slayton elementary school.

Answer: Some vehicles, such as passenger vans, buses, and larger trucks, are required to stop at all railroad tracks, whether or not a train is present.

By Allie Paulzine, Student Reporter The 2024 Section 3A Cross Country Tournament held in Luverne, MN, showcased impressive performances from the Murray County Central/ Fulda Warriors as they aimed for state qualification. The meet served as a fierce battleground, with several standout runners making their mark.

The MCC Rebel Football team was on the road on Saturday as MCC was looking for revenge on the weekend before Halloween. The Rebels have been haunted by the loss to Adrian Ellsworth earlier this season. In that game the Rebels lost 13 to 11. All of the points were scored in the first half yet the Rebels had the ball much of the second half and couldn’t score. The Rebels learned a lot in that game and they used it the rest of the season. On Saturday the Rebels would vanquish what was haunting them in a victory over their rivals.
