SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES ELECTRIC INSTALLATION AT SOCCER FIELD SHED

Slayton City Council approved the installation of electricity in the shed at the Soccer Field during their Monday evening meeting. Engelkes Electric, LLC., will be doing the installation work. The Murray County United Soccer Program will be responsible for the cost of the installation. They will maintain the electrical service and pay all associated monthly utility charges.

PIPESTONE NATIONAL MONUMENT PLANS PRESCRIBED BURN

Pipestone National Monument plans to implement a prescribed burn between April 13 and May 31, 2026, when appropriate conditions exist. Approximately 170 acres of tallgrass prairie will be ignited by U.S. Wildland Fire Service personnel if prescription parameters can be met.

MCC AND FULDA DISTRICTS HOLD JOINT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

By Crystal Reith MCC and Fulda school board members and superintendents met on Monday, March 30 at a special joint school board meeting to share updates on district operations and discuss the potential for increased collaboration.

JAKE SCANDRETT NAMED SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

MCC High School Principal Jake Scandrett has been named the Southwest Division High School Principal of the Year by the Southwest Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (SWMASSP). The organization, a regional division of the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals, includes more than 100 principals and assistant principals from middle and high schools across southwest Minnesota.

The Chanarambie Township Board—Dale Heard

The Chanarambie Township Board—Dale Heard, Chad Miersma, Bob Ossefoort, Connie Post, and Karen Hurd—gathered to celebrate Bob Ossefoort’s retirement, honoring his remarkable 43 years of service as township supervisor and expressing sincere gratitude for his years of commitment and leadership.

GIRLS LOSE SOFTBALL OPENER

The MCC Rebel Softball team opened their season on Monday night in Cottonwood. The Rebels are coming off a Red Rock Conference Championship but it’s a new look Rebel team. Although half the lineup returns, the pitching staff has a new look and lineup has changed. The Rebels lost to the Lakers a year ago in a close game in Slayton. This game did not end the, same as the Lakers scored early and then pulled away in the third inning. The Rebels would take their first loss of the year.
