WARRIORS EARN STRONG FINISHES AT OLIVIA MEET

By Allie Paulzine The Murray County Central/ Fulda Warriors cross country teams turned in a strong performance at the Olivia Golf Course on Thursday, highlighted by a first-place finish from the junior high boys and a third-place team finish from the varsity boys.

Leading the way for the varsity boys, sophomore Aiden Appel placed 7th overall with a time of 17:38.39, pacing the Warriors to a team total of 80 points. Senior Matthew Stapek followed close behind in 9th with a time of 17:54.58, while junior Alexander Betz secured 12th in 18:17.24. Rounding out the varsity scoring were juniors Beckett Stelter (24th, 20:08.70) and freshman Micah Janssen (28th, 20:27.61). Sophomore Tyler Reith (30th, 20:46.24) and senior Yordi Oliverdos (45th, 23:51.11) also contributed solid runs.

In the boys JV race, Tyler Reith led the squad with a 7th-place finish in 21:10.34, followed by 8th-grader Allen Ahrens (16th, 24:26.15), senior Walker Biren (26th, 27:10.66), and freshman Carson Sykora (33rd, 35:13.91).

The junior high boys dominated the 2500-meter race, claiming first place as a team with just 21 points. Garrett Reith led the pack with a 2nd-place finish in 9:55.27, setting a new personal record. He was followed by a tight group of Warriors all earning PRs — Conner Pieske (3rd, 10:08.55), Kole Appel (4th, 10:11.30), Carter Larson (5th, 10:14.86), and Bobby Keller (7th, 10:25.17). Allen Ahrens also ran a strong race, finishing 12th in 11:02.30.

On the girls’ side, junior Laiken Farris led the varsity team with an impressive 2nd-place finish in 20:14.11, while freshman Mara Clarke placed 8th in 21:52.33. Sophomore Holland Vogel (25th, 25:42.30) and 8thgrader Isabela Schreier (29th, 26:29.17) rounded out the varsity lineup.

In the junior high girls’ 2500-meter race, Hadley Harms earned 4th place with a personal-best time of 11:59.34, helping lead the young Warriors to a strong team showing. Also earning personal records were Sophia Hamersma (8th, 12:34.44), Alexis Pickard (10th, 13:10.09), Tessa Ahlquist (12th, 13:40.00), and Cassie Scandrett (13th, 14:13.06).

The Warriors will look to build on their success next week as they continue their push toward the conference and section meets.
