WARRIOR WRESTLERS TRAVEL TO FAIRMONT AND LAMBERTON

The F/MCC Warriors fared very well last week, winning against Fairmont in a dual on Thursday, January 22nd and then placing third at the Lamberton Highwater Ethanol Invite.

Against Fairmont at 107 the Warriors were open, giving the first 6 points to the Red Bulls. Losing a pin at 114 was Brodik Clarke, who fought off Brock Jagodzinske for two periods before giving up the fall. At 121, Thomas Pruitt started the Warrior scoring with a forfeit followed by Dane Hansen, who also received a forfeit at 127. At 133, there was some excitement as Kaston Clarke took on Pierce Rohman, who holds the state third place medal. Kaston performed very well, going three periods before giving up the tech fall.

At 139, Brayden Gilb drew Cooper Kolander and scored 3 takedowns in the first period and another in the second after a neutral start. Gilb scored the pinfall with a chicken wing reverse half for the win. After a loss at 145, Lucas Kuball had Torrey Paplow. After suffering the initial takedown, he earned his escape and Kuball scored 16 straight points with a takedown, two cradles and a butcher. Starting neutral in the econd period, Kuball got in on an ankle pick, scoring 3 more and earning the tech fall. (Warriors 23-Red Bulls 23) At 160, Quintin Lewis had a scoreless first period against Kadin Lange and started on top in the second period, suffering a reversal and a 2 point nearfall, but found his way to an escape to start the third period behind 4-1. The third period Quintin had his footing and from the bottom scored 2 on a reversal, then scored the fall for the team with a cradle.

For the 172 bout Jaxon Wendorff manhandled Luis Martin, scoring the tech fall in the second period after a reversal and 3 nearfalls. Luke Iverson continued the scoring, earning a fall against Austin Newcombe in the second period. After Vincent Bray gave up a tech fall to Aaron Becker, Colby Kesteloot went the distance with DJ Miller, finishing with a 7-2 decision and putting the Warriors 31-40 for the win.

At the Lamberton Highwater Ethanol invite Kaston Clarke earned the champion at 121. Dane Hansen earned 5th, beating Bryson Marsh in the semifinals. Brayden Gilb got 3rd, beating Chase Lee of New Ulm Area in the 139 finals. Lucas Kuball at 152 earned 4th, falling to Spencer Drill of New Ulm in the finals. Quintin Lewis made the top of the podium, earning champion with a 5-2 decision over Candon Briggs of New Ulm who had beat the #1 seed Jackson Jenniges of Adrian. Jaxon Wendorff earned 6th place at 172, beating Aron Umansor Meji in the quarter finals. Luke Iverson had the highest scoring match of the night but just fell short with a 21-18 decision for 3rd place against Jonah Skarupa of Red Rock Central. At Heavyweight, Colby Kesteloot had a nail biting 4-2 decision against Nicholas Becker of Eden Valley Watkins with a 36-1 record in the finals, earning 2nd place. Gabriel Wolske earned 6th place, beating Griffin Smidt of Pipestone with a first period fall.
