SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES GAS UTILITY BOND

Approved during the Monday evening Slayton City Council meeting was the $5,094,000 Gas Utility Revenue Bond, Series 2026A that will finance the acquisition for, and municipalization of, a natural gas utility, to be operated by the City of Slayton. Rebecca Kurtz, Senior Municipal Advisor for Ehlers Public Finance Advisors was present via Zoom to explain the bond and answer any questions that the council had.

Resolution #05-04-2026B was adopted. It approves the execution of agreements with Northwest Natural Gas of Murray County (“NW GAS”) to transfer the gas infrastructure to the city of Slayton.

Ordinance No. 349 that establishes Title V, Chapter 52 of the Slayton city code entitled “Natural Gas Utility”, was adopted. It enables the council to establish a natural gas utility and related regulations.

Resolution 05-04-2026C, Declaring Certain Property Surplus and Approving Convenyance For Development of a Childcare Center was adopted by the council.

The council approved the League of Minnesota Cities required Liability Coverage Waiver Form, electing to not waive the monetary limits on municipal tort liability as established by Minn. Stat. 466.04.

Resolution No. 05-04-2026D was adopted. The resolution is to set a public hearing on the proposed vacation of a portion of the alley between Linden Avenue and Broadway Avenue, south of 29th Street. The public hearing will be held on June 1, 2026, at Slayton City Hall, located at 2424 26th Street, 6 p.m.
