SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVED RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THEIR DISPLEASURE IN THE COUNTY’S DECISION TO PULL FUNDS FROM WONDERWORLD
The Slayton City Council met on Tuesday, January 21st due to the Monday holiday. All members were present except Blake Heronimus – they approved the meeting minutes from January 6th and also the agenda for this week’s meeting. The claims were approved.
Moving on to new business, the Council was presented with the budgeted item to approve the purchase of a new squad car for 2025 there is $75,000 budgeted and the cost is coming in at $69,099.72 fully outfitted. They also approved for Lee Meinders to take over the Firearms Instructor Course. Chief Steinle is currently certified and Meinders will now get certified for this role.
They next discussed with City Works Director Weston Mahon the purchase of a street road grader. The current estimate from RDO Equipment Co out of Sioux Falls is $80,800 after the trade in of the ’91 Grader. This is the county’s grader and they have the complete maintenance records on it. Also, the operation of the machine will be easier. There is $67,000 in the fund right now and City Administrator Josh Malchow feels that it is a good deal and even though present funds are short, it won’t take long to recoup this as $6700 is put into this fund each year. The Council approved this purchase.
The council next discussed resolution 01-21-2025 “A Resolution of the City of Slayton Disapproving of the Murray County Board of Commissioners Decision to Reverse Funding for the Wonderworld Nonprofit Day-care Center Building Project”. The council discussed this and feels like this addresses “their concerns and vocal continued support for the daycare center without a whole lot of valued basis” said Council member Kate Harmsen. The resolution passed and was adopted.
The Council then moved into 2 closed sessions. The first was to: “Develop an offer to purchase real or personal property owned by Northwest Natural Gas within the City of Slayton.” And the second was to: “Develop offer to purchase real or personal property owned by Xcel Energy within the City of Slayton.” These are both pursuant to Minn. Stat. 13D.05, subd. 3(c)3. No action was taken after either closed session.
With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
