SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVE HIRING OF NEW POLICE OFFICER

The Slayton City Council held their regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025. With all members present, they approved the agenda with one addition, as well as, the minutes from the last meeting, with one correction and the claims for the month.

The City of Slayton received notice from the Treasury Department that their federal funding is on hold currently. There is a request for more information on the golf course project that is still needing to be completed. They have a deadline of Feb 18th to get that information submitted. At this point it is unknown what the outcome on funding will be.

Mayor Carney and City Administrator Josh Malchow are planning to attend the Coalition of Greater MN Cities Legislation Action day on Feb. 12th.

A public hearing is scheduled for February 18th to discuss a special election regarding the acquisition of property for the Municipalization of a Natural Gas Utility for the City of Slayton. A pubic hearing has to occur to decide if a special election is needed and what ballot language should be used.

There has been no response from the Commissioners on Wonder World. Many of the council members have received positive comments on the Council’s response.

Next, the council approved the purchase of two mowers for the city, one for the ball fields and a disk mower.

The council also approved the recommendation for the Police Dept. to hire Johnathon Reim, contingent upon satisfactory results of physical and psychological tests.

Lastly, they approved a temporary liquor license for the Historical Society on Feb. 15th.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025.
